Culture

The Trinquet de L’Abdet dates back to 1772 and is one of the oldest trinquets in the Comunitat Valenciana. In Abdet, the “pilota grossa” variant of Valencian pelota is played; the balls are larger than a tennis ball and are hand-sewn with a core made of fabric and goatskin.

The Lavadero de L’Abdet is a restored communal washhouse about 200 metres from the historic centre. In L’Abdet, a festival in honour of San Vicente Ferrer takes place every year during the last week of Easter. Every year, summer celebrations in honour of the Virgen de las Dolores follow on the third weekend of August. The two festival dates can be noted as two clearly defined periods in the annual calendar.

Nature

The Font de l’Arbre recreational area is located within the municipality in the Sierra de Aitana at an altitude of around 1,200 metres. It is part of the PR-CV20 and PR-CV21 routes. In the area of the Barranco del Fanalic, the river plunges through the gorge as a waterfall during rainy periods.

The Pericos Cave extends over more than 1,000 square metres and features narrow passages as well as large galleries. For days spent in nature, you can consider altitude, seasonal water and underground spaces as different themes alongside one another.

Hiking and Gorges

The Creueta del Penyó crowns L’Abdet; its summit, with a large cross, offers expansive views of the surrounding area. A cave lies halfway up the ascent to the Creueta del Penyó. The Circular de Mela is one of the hiking routes designated for L’Abdet.

A challenging hiking route leads from L’Abdet to Pla de la Casa at an altitude of 1,385 metres; as a physically demanding circular tour, it covers 16.3 kilometres, 960 metres of elevation gain and an estimated duration of 6 to 7 hours.
