Galdeano lies at the foot of the Sierra de Lóquiz. The PR-NA 185 begins near San Pedro Church; parking is available in the streets of Galdeano. Mountain scenery, the village church and the circular route can be considered separately when planning a trip.

Culture

San Pedro Church was built in the 13th century and extensively redesigned in the 16th century in the Gothic-Renaissance style. It preserves a pointed-arch portal from the 13th century with three archivolts and diamond-point decoration. The main altarpiece of San Pedro Church was completed in 1616.

The Palacio de Galdeano is a Renaissance building from the 16th century with a Gothic-influenced entrance; the coat of arms of the Galdeano family is displayed on its façade. It was the ancestral seat of the Galdeano lineage and was registered as a “cabo de armería”. The exterior can be viewed freely and free of charge; the interior is accessible only to hotel or restaurant guests.

At the summit of the Sierra de Lóquiz, a chapel houses a small altarpiece from the last third of the 17th century. It includes two roughly executed Baroque statues of Saints Cosmas and Damian, dated to the first half of the 17th century.

A holiday apartment in Galdeano can be assessed on the booking pages using travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions. These details form a separate decision level alongside the cultural, festival and nature topics described here, without anticipating their individual characteristics.

Hiking and Landscape

The ascent from Galdeano to the Ermita de San Cosme y San Damián is 12.2 kilometres long and passes the Ermita de San Miguel. The PR-NA 185 is a circular route from Galdeano to the Ermita de San Cosme y San Damián and back to Galdeano via Artavia.

Between Galdeano and Artavia, the route runs above the Urederra River; the downy oak, or native oak, is the predominant tree species there. The Paredones de Galdeano in the Sierra de Lóquiz are considered an area of interest for climbing.

The kilometre figure and the circular route answer different questions: they show separately the extent of the ascent and the route via Galdeano, the Ermita and Artavia. The river location, predominant tree species and the climbing topic mentioned add further, independent landscape features to these route details.

For your own trip planning, length, circular route, river location, tree species and climbing topic can be considered as separate features.

Festivals and Nature

The festivals of Galdeano are celebrated from 26 to 29 June with a Chupinazo, children’s games, rural sports, music and concerts, competitions, Abadejada and other events. The patron-saint festivities in honour of Saint Peter take place on 29 June.

The rare beetle Osmoderma eremita was found in 2014 in an old oak pasture near Galdeano.
