Nature

The Ruta dels Santuaris crosses the southern boundary of the Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu. After 2.6 km, the Roca del Lladre rock formation can be seen to the south. Together with other rocks in the surrounding area, Roca del Lladre is home to the largest colony of griffon vultures in the Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu. For route planning, this section specifies the distance of 2.6 km to the rock formation. The southerly direction indicates the viewing direction in which Roca del Lladre becomes visible.

The route connection places several clearly named points in sequence: Baro is at the beginning, Santa Maria d’Arboló lies along the route as a sanctuary, and Gerri de la Sal forms the destination together with the Santa Maria de Gerri monastery. The two route descriptions emphasize different aspects of the same river: the Ruta dels Santuaris runs parallel to the Noguera Pallaresa, while El recuerdo de la sal follows its course.

The Bony del Ferner Gran peak is located in the area around Baro. The Cap de la Muntanyeta peak is also in the surrounding area. The Sant Quir peak is part of the area around Baro. The Roca del Collar peak is likewise located in the vicinity of Baro. Each of these four peaks is known by its own name: Bony del Ferner Gran, Cap de la Muntanyeta, Sant Quir, and Roca del Collar.

Culture

In the wider regional area around Baro lies Cal Feliuet, a palace. Castell de Ciutat, a castle, is also located in the wider regional area. Both destinations are described according to their respective classifications as a palace and a castle.

Baro has a small chapel dedicated to Mare de Déu del Roser. The Capella de la Mare de Déu del Roser in Baro has a single-nave interior. Its façade is whitewashed. The chapel’s portal is rectangular. A small oculus is located on the south-facing front wall. The description links the single-nave interior with the whitewashed façade. The portal and oculus are located on the south-facing front wall.

Several simply described architectural elements thus come together at the chapel: the single-nave interior forms the inside, the whitewashed façade defines the exterior, and the rectangular portal and small oculus are located on the southern front. Its dedication to Mare de Déu del Roser is just as much part of the building’s description as its location in Baro.
