Discover Escadarchs: Routes, Mountains and Culture in Cerdanya

Culture

The Museu Municipal De Llívia is located in the surroundings of Escadarchs. Cal Balart d'Escadarcs is a typical farmhouse of Cerdanya. The buildings on the property form a self-contained complex. The church of Sant Jaume d'Escadarcs has not been preserved.

The cultural sites therefore include a museum in the surrounding area, a preserved farmhouse with its distinctive architectural form, and a church that has not been preserved. At the Cal Balart d'Escadarcs farmhouse, the self-contained complex is expressly part of the property’s described form.

Crafts and history

A cattle shoeing crate is still preserved at the Cal Bep i cal Ferrer d'Escadarcs property. It is located at the crossroads of the roads to Alp and Estoll and is a crate for shoeing cattle. Around 1979, Joan Blanc i Cordomí was the last person to practise the craft of cattle shoeing in Cerdanya. The forge at Cal Bep i cal Ferrer d'Escadarcs stood on the historic royal road to Puigcerdà.

The preserved crate is therefore connected with a specific craft and is also located at a crossroads. The roads to Alp and Estoll are the two directions mentioned. Joan Blanc i Cordomí is also recorded as the last known practitioner of this craft around 1979. The former forge on the historic royal road to Puigcerdà adds the former location of the blacksmithing trade to this context.

Festivals

Escadarchs and Estoll jointly celebrate a festival in honour of Saint Eulàlia. This festival takes place in December.
