Vada lies at the upper end of the historic Valle de Cereceda. In Vada, the Baorrín stream and the Vejo River meet; the waters of the Baorrín stream and the Vejo River flow into the Quiviesa. Streams descending from the surrounding peaks, which rise to more than 2,000 metres, also flow through the area of Vada.

Landscape

Next to the bridges of Vada, where the Vejo and San Andrés rivers meet, there is a waterfall. In the broader regional context, the Liébana ZEC protected area includes sections of the Quiviesa river system and extends partly across the municipality of Vega de Liébana. At regional level, the Ruta Lebaniega passes through the municipality of Vega de Liébana; it connects the coastal route from Santiago de Compostela with the Camino Francés.

Anyone wishing to combine different focal points for individual days can consider waterways, the regional route connection and the protected area separately when planning.

Culture and Townscape

The Virgen de la Piedad is venerated in Vada parish church. Nuestra Señora de la Piedad is a single-nave masonry church with a rectangular chancel. Vada parish church lies slightly east of the main settlement area.

On Palm Sunday, a procession runs from La Vega parish church to Vada parish church; the Virgen de la Piedad is carried on a bier. A traditional ensemble of mountain farmhouses has been preserved in Vada.

On the route towards San Glorio, you can visit an old mill. On the 15th day of the month, a festival in honour of Nuestra Señora is celebrated in Vada.

Paths

The walking route from Vada to Vejo follows the course of the Vejo River. It is suitable for everyone, has only a slight incline and is easy to follow. The route leads to the Invernales and the Tenada of Julebrín, passes through the La Vega district and crosses a stone bridge there.

For planning your day, the gentle incline, clear route, stone bridge and the two named destinations can be arranged as distinct route features. The topics can be understood as separate building blocks for your personal order of activities during the day.

Getting there

Vada is located on the N-621 road. Via the nearby Puerto de San Glorio, the N-621 connects Vada with the province of León; it also connects Vada with Potes.

When comparing a holiday apartment in Vada, you can consider the travel period, room category and cancellation conditions together. For your own planning, culture, waterways, the walking route and regional routes stand alongside one another as different focal points. You can also base your choice between a culture-focused day and a walk by the water on these themes.
