Nature

The Desfiladero de La Hermida is a river gorge in hard Paleozoic rocks. The Deva River has cut its way into these rocks; the differences in elevation reach 1,000 meters in places. For your own planning, you can consider the rock formations, river course and differences in elevation as separate points of reference.

The Desfiladero is also a corridor bounded by limestone walls. The walls reach heights of up to 1,000 meters and narrow to around 100 meters in places. The geological scale and spatial narrowness create different focal points from the viewpoints in the surrounding landscape.

At the Desfiladero de La Hermida, there is a viewpoint and signage; a scenic viewpoint is located there by the Deva River. The viewpoint and signage form a separate layer of orientation alongside the geological dimensions and can be incorporated independently into your daily planning.

Thermal Traditions

The three medicinal mineral springs of Balneario La Hermida were already being used therapeutically in the mid-17th century. The mineral water emerges from them naturally at a temperature of 60°C.

The classical thermal tradition was finally firmly established in 1880 through the construction of the Gran Hotel, a church and new thermal galleries.

The Cueva Termal is located near Balneario La Hermida, behind the main building.

It opened in November 2021; in the surrounding area, there are various outdoor warm-water areas with a temperature of 38°C. For comparison, time references, temperatures and location can be considered as separate criteria.

History

Remains of the former Ermita de San Pelayo in La Hermida have been preserved. The entire floor plan survives, with the exception of the north wall of the nave.

The Ermita de San Pelayo is a Gothic chapel in the center of La Hermida. It retains a pointed triumphal arch, indicating a Gothic origin. The preserved substance and architectural form each create their own focal point within the town’s cultural themes.

In La Hermida, San Roque is associated with August 16.

Activities

Different activity focuses can be considered separately based on route length and difference in elevation. The Vía Ferrata La Hermida is approximately 700 meters long and has a difference in elevation of more than 300 meters.
