Sa Mesquida combines a small bay divided into two coves by Punta de sa Torre with striking traces of the island’s history. On the shore lies Arenal de sa Mesquida, a wide beach with fine white sand. From here, you can see the islets of Illots d’en Mesquida, while the approximately 70-metre-high Pa Gros rises directly beside the beach and offers views of the coast.

Beach and water
The clear waters of Sa Mesquida have a sandy, rocky seabed shaped by Posidonia and are suitable for snorkelling. An area of the beach marked off by buoys is designated for stand-up paddleboarding. In summer, a lifeguard is on duty at the beach. There are also parking facilities in the immediate vicinity of the beach.
The paths around Sa Mesquida also reveal different sides of the area. One route begins at the end of Maó harbour and leads towards Sa Mesquida. Another route runs from Maó via Sa Mesquida to Es Grau and continues to the Parc Natural de la Albufera des Grau. To get there from Maó, follow the signposted road to the Sa Mesquida development.
Culture and history
The Torre de sa Mesquida, an English coastal defence tower from 1799, stands above the bay. Together with ten other coastal towers, it formed part of the island’s defence system. Its structural details still point to this function today: on the western side, the tower has a broad, reinforced machicolation, and there are also numerous loopholes for rifle fire.
The beach is also associated with a historical event: French troops landed there to occupy Menorca. At present, the entire Torre de sa Mesquida complex is privately owned. Another long-standing local tradition is the Sa Mesquida coastal festival, held on the first weekend of August.
