Culture

The parish church of Santa María in La Isla dates from the 19th century. Its rectangular nave has a square-ended chancel; a portico was added in the 20th century, and the traditional bell gable is decorated with spheres. In the old town stands Casona La Quintana, an 18th- and 19th-century building with a coat of arms on its façade.

The Trincheras de La Isla were built by Republican forces to control the beach against possible landings. They are located near the beach on a small cliff and can be reached via a path from the beach. The Albergue de peregrinos de La Isla was housed in the former local school. At that time, visitors had to go to the hostel warden before visiting the pilgrims’ hostel; she stamped pilgrims’ credentials and opened the hostel. Plaza del Horrón is a group of hórreos in La Isla.

Coast

In the Zona de surf La Isla, the seabed consists of sand at low tide and rock at high tide.

Paths

The Route de Los Misterios del Mar is an easy, one-way coastal walk measuring 3.9 km; the estimated duration is one hour. For approximately 2 km, it runs directly alongside the sea, where dolphins and other whales may be spotted. Near the end, the islet on the beach at the village of La Isla serves as an important landmark.

The Entre Playas Route follows the coastal platform past several small settlements with traditional architecture, including hórreos, manor houses and washhouses. The length and estimated duration of the Route de Los Misterios del Mar can be compared with the route and architectural features of the Entre Playas Route when planning your own day.

When choosing a specific holiday apartment in La Isla, you can compare travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions on the accommodation listing page. The location selection can then be organised according to your preferred focus: beach, coastal paths or culture. Those who wish to structure their day differently can consider the listed walk, the beach and the cultural sites in any order. The topics mentioned can be considered individually or combined throughout the day. When staying in a holiday apartment in La Isla, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be treated as separate selection criteria alongside the focuses of beach, coastal paths and culture. This keeps the accommodation features separate from the characteristics of the location, while the three topics provide different focal points for planning your trip. The order of these focuses does not have to be decided in advance.
