Corrada is the highest point in the municipality of Soto del Barco. From there, a beautiful landscape can be viewed, giving the place its own geographical significance within the municipality. Between landscape impressions, religious architecture, festive traditions and a path along the Canal del Narcea, different ways of discovering La Corrada emerge.

Culture and Townscape

The Iglesia de San Lorenzo is listed in La Corrada as an element of Asturian cultural heritage, and the Capilla de San Ildefonso is also listed there as an element of Asturian cultural heritage. Both buildings are also connected with the Senda del Agua and can be visited along this route. Religious architecture and a walking route therefore come together, without the two sights having to be viewed solely as isolated individual destinations.

San Lorenzo is celebrated in La Corrada on 10 August. Large romerías and verbenas are held there in his honour. The feast day adds a scheduled occasion to the permanently present buildings and brings another facet of the local culture into focus. La Corrada also has numerous buildings that represent Indianos architecture and culture. As a result, religious architectural forms, festive traditions and traces of the Indianos stand side by side.

La Corrada is considered one of the villages that received awards in the 1950s as one of the most beautiful villages in Asturias. The Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen has a rectangular floor plan, a single-nave body and a choir with a flat-ended apse. Its clearly structured form adds a specific architectural detail to the other religious buildings.

The Route Through La Corrada

The Senda del Agua (PR-AS 049) is a linear route that follows the course of the Canal del Narcea and passes through La Corrada. The Senda del Agua is considered a family-friendly route. The path therefore combines a defined route format with a named watercourse and the village itself. Along the Senda del Agua, the Iglesia de San Lorenzo and the Capilla de San Ildefonso can be visited in La Corrada. For planning purposes, the linear route, the two religious buildings and the cultural and historical focal points can be considered separately.

Those with a stronger interest in architectural forms will find specific religious destinations along the same route; those who want to focus on the route itself can orient themselves by the Canal del Narcea and the linear layout of the Senda del Agua. The feast day in honour of San Lorenzo provides an independent temporal focus. The different themes can therefore be considered side by side, without prescribing a fixed order.

Further Context

The Área Recreativa de La Capilla is among the sights in La Corrada. Together with the highest point of the municipality of Soto del Barco, the buildings of Indianos architecture, the churches and chapels, and the Senda del Agua, it creates a townscape in which landscape, route, architectural heritage and festive tradition set different accents. Further information about the area can be found under Omedas.
