Trbovlje combines impressive testimonies to mining culture with an extensive landscape area. The eight-metre-high “Miner Prometej” structure made of iron and coal alone highlights this special focus.

Culture

The former everyday life is particularly vividly presented in the “Rudarsko stanovanje” exhibition. Almost all the furniture and small inventory items in its collections are original. The exhibition contrasts residential culture in Zasavje during the 1920s and 1960s, thereby presenting two different ways of life from different periods. The collections are displayed in an atmospheric “in situ” presentation. The permanent exhibition is located in the authentic setting of the old Njiva mining colony at Trg svobode.

A guided tour also offers a direct look at the history of mining. It begins at Termoelektrarna Trbovlje with a visit to the 360-metre-high chimney, the tallest industrial chimney in Europe. The tour then continues by bus to mining colonies. These were built a hundred years ago as housing for miners and are still largely inhabited today.

Experiences

At the virtual mining museum, visitors can pass through a genuine mine tunnel equipped with original mining exhibits, light and sound effects, holograms and projections. Using state-of-the-art equipment for virtual and augmented reality, they immerse themselves in the world of miners as it was 100 years ago.

The focus is not solely on technical working environments. The virtual mining museum also portrays the lives of miners’ families and their struggle for a better future. It is located at Delavski dom Trbovlje, Trg svobode 11/a, 1420 Trbovlje.

Nature

Kum Landscape Park covers the southern part of the municipality of Trbovlje on the right bank of the Sava. It was granted landscape park status in 1996 by an ordinance of the Municipality of Trbovlje. Covering an area of 2,232 hectares, the landscape park offers interesting insights into the natural and cultural heritage.

Cycling

As part of an operation, a cycling map with marked cycle routes was to be created for the municipality of Trbovlje. The planned routes included paths through the town, from the town into the surrounding area or to mountain peaks, as well as connections between mountain huts. The plan described therefore covers different spatial directions within the municipality and its immediate surroundings.
