Mining and Everyday History
The Zasavski muzej Trbovlje offers visitors the opportunity to view an authentic miners’ apartment in a miners’ colony. The permanent exhibition “Srečno...črne doline” at the Zasavski muzej Trbovlje covers ten key topics relating to the development of the region’s three towns in Zasavje over the past 200 years.
The longer version of the Ethnological Trail through the miners’ colonies of Trbovlje is approximately 3 km long, begins in Njiva and passes through six different colonies. The Ethnological Trail is equipped with 16 information boards; a guide for an independent tour is available at the Zasavski muzej Trbovlje. By prior arrangement, the Zasavski muzej Trbovlje can organise a presentation of additional miners’ colonies with bread ovens and entrances to mine tunnels.
Nature and Trails
Kum Landscape Park covers the southern part of the municipality of Trbovlje and extends to the 1,220-metre-high summit of Kum. Kum Landscape Park is primarily intended for recreation and the preservation of the characteristic landscape, and was included in the Natura 2000 network in 2004.
The PD Trbovlje mountaineering club maintains eight mountain trails registered with the Alpine Association of Slovenia. The hike from the Sava to the summit of Kum via Trbovlje and Dobovec takes approximately three hours. The Trbovlje–Mrzlica–Trbovlje cycling route is signposted.
Culture and Historic Sites
The Trbovlje–Čebine–Sveta Planina–Trbovlje route passes the Barlič farmstead, where the founding congress of the KPS was held in secret on the night of 17–18 April 1937. The ground floor houses a museum about the political events and the situation of the working class in the period between the two world wars.
The Park of Culture is a newly established interpretation site commemorating the industrial and cultural heritage of Trbovlje. The Rudarski dom was built during the miners’ strike of 1923 and burned down on 1 June 1924 during clashes between the workers of Trbovlje and the fascist Orjuna. The Delavski dom is a newer and considerably larger cultural centre next to the former Rudarski dom.
The Rudar Prometej monument stands on the slope of Ostri vrh and offers views over a large part of the Trbovlje valley. The monumental Monument to the Revolution was created by the sculptor Stojan Batič and the architect Boris Kobe.
Coffee and Getting Around
The “Black Gold” experience includes a visit to a coffee roastery in Trbovlje, where visitors learn about coffee and its proper preparation.
TRajBi e-bikes can be rented at Trbovlje railway station, allowing visitors to reach the town centre. Trbovlje railway station can be reached by train from the direction of Ljubljana or Zidani Most; from there, a regular bus service operates through the town.
