Trenčianska Turná – Culture between the Váh and the Mountains

Landscape

Trenčianska Turná lies on the left bank of the middle course of the Váh and is surrounded by the landscape of the Strážov Mountains. To the west of the town are the Biele Karpaty mountains. Mount Považský Inovec is part of the landscape around Trenčianska Turná and adds to the geographical context of the area.

Culture and History

On 3 August 1708, the Battle of Hámre took place. Its battlefield also extended into the territory of Trenčianska Turná; a monument in Hámre commemorates this event.

The Church of St. Martin in Trenčianska Turná was originally Gothic and was rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries. It contains two crypts. Its tower houses the oldest bell, dating from 1832, meaning that the building combines various historical layers in its architectural history and furnishings.

The local museum is housed in the cottage on Kušnierovec. A statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1794 stands in the “9. líp” park. A commemorative plaque for Samuel Timon is also located on the building of the former Roman Catholic school in Trenčianska Turná.

The historical points of interest are therefore spread across the church, museum, park, school building and the memorial in Hámre. Visitors interested in architecture will find Gothic origins, later reconstructions, the crypts and the 1832 bell at St. Martin; the other sites focus on different aspects of the history of the town and its surroundings.

Activities

The TJ Slovan sports complex in Trenčianska Turná includes a pump track. It is intended for bikers of all ages and skill levels, from children on balance bikes and recreational riders to racers.
