Trenčín Castle is a landmark of the city of Trenčín and the entire Považie region and is one of the most extensive castles in Europe. Its history dates back to a residential tower and a rotunda from the 11th century; the remains are visible in the upper castle courtyard. The castle can be reached from the city centre by tourist train. The Roman inscription on the castle rock commemorates the Romans’ victory over the Germanic Quadi. It can be viewed through a glass wall in the Elizabeth Hotel; to do so, go upstairs through the entrance hall.
