Soblahov is situated in a three-kilometre-long, enclosed valley of the Soblahovský potok stream below the mountain range of the Strážovské vrchy. Above the village rises Ostrý vrch, reaching 767 metres above sea level. Thus, in the immediate surroundings, a clearly defined valley area meets the wooded heights of the Strážovské vrchy.

Nature

One of the distinctive natural areas is the Bindárka National Nature Reserve. It lies on the western slopes of the Strážovské vrchy below Ostrý vrch, where the Dolinový potok stream emerges into the Považské podolie lowland. The area was designated in 1983 and covers 8.97 hectares. Bindárka is a very well-preserved alluvial fen with flowing water. Near Dolinka there is also an isolated population of the strictly protected large-flowered pasque flower.

The Ostrý vrch Nature Reserve includes a beech forest at the summit. The beech stands are approximately 100 years old, with beech as the dominant tree species and other deciduous trees mixed in. Thus, different forms of landscape exist side by side around Soblahov: the wet Bindárka fen, the protected plant population near Dolinka and the beech stand at the summit of Ostrý vrch.

Culture and History

Several ecclesiastical buildings and religious monuments have been preserved in Soblahov. The Early Gothic Church of Saint Nicholas the Bishop is listed as a national cultural monument. The parish church in Soblahov is documented in records from 1332 to 1337. The late Baroque Chapel of Saint Vincent stands beside a stream and the main road. Also beside a stream, at the crossroads towards Ostrý vrch, is the Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, which was erected in 1789.

Another historical connection leads back to the 16th century: at that time, the Anabaptists founded the so-called Soblahovský habánsky dvor. Skilled craftsmen worked there, especially cutlers, saddlers and potters. The Neoclassical Chapel of Saint Vendelin was built in 1802 after the inhabitants vowed, during a period of severe cattle plague, to build a chapel dedicated to Saint Vendelin. Above the altar table in this chapel is a polychrome image of the saint carved in stone. The mountain railway, begun in 1912, also ran through the cadastral areas of Soblahov.

Hiking and Views

The Soblahov lookout tower is a 9.5-metre-high wooden structure with two viewing platforms. It can be reached directly from the village of Soblahov in about ten minutes. The platforms offer views of Soblahov, Trenčianska Turná, Mníchova Lehota, Trenčín and Nové Mesto nad Váhom.

Above the municipality of Soblahov of the Trenčín District, which shares its name, near Ostrý vrch, is the Hojdačka Soblahov swing. It can be reached from Chata pod Ostrým vrchom via a blue-marked hiking trail. The route is considered an easy hike suitable for an outing with children and takes approximately one hour.

There is also a designated connection for a cycling tour: from Trenčín, a cycling excursion route leads to Soblahov and from there continues for 4 kilometres to Chata pod Ostrým vrchom. Chata pod Ostrým vrchom serves as a tourist and sports facility, a summer recreation resort and a winter sports centre for skiing, and continues to fulfil this function today. Free parking spaces, including accessible parking spaces, are available at the chalet; the entrance to the chalet is accessible.
