Culture

The Gothic Church of St Nicholas dates from the end of the 13th century and contains a late Gothic stone baptismal font from the 16th century. The interior can be visited by arrangement with the tourist information centre. This is managed by Marmon, the municipal tourism and regional development agency, which also operates the Dom ľubovnianskeho mešťana Town Museum and the Historical Military Camp.

Ľubovňa Castle was built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries; its tower offers views of the Tatras and the Three Crowns in the Pieniny Mountains. Plaveč Castle Ruins date from the 13th century; remnants of the walls have been preserved, and the site offers views of the surrounding area.

The grounds of the International Sculpture Symposium in Vyšné Ružbachy were declared a cultural monument on 1 July 1997. The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Most Holy Mother of God on Mount Zvir in Litmanová was established on 7 September 2008, together with the entire grounds and the spring, as a pilgrimage site of the Greek Catholic Archdiocese of Prešov.

The Dom ľubovnianskeho mešťana exhibition is housed in a historic burgher’s house from the 17th century with Renaissance architectural elements, original vaults, stucco decoration and cellars dating from the 15th century.

The wider surrounding region is home to the named landmarks Muszyna - Ruiny Zamku and Rytro, which are classified as castles, as well as Červený Kláštor, classified as a monastery, and the Wooden Articular Church in Kežmarok, classified as a church.

Nature

Jarabinský prielom is a protected limestone gorge with rapids, waterfalls and large potholes. The crater in Vyšné Ružbachy is a legally protected travertine formation.

The nearby area includes the named mountains Nemecký vrch, Chotárňa, Hrubá Klada and Široký vrch. In Litmanová, hiking trails lead to the Litmanovské skalky nature reserve.

Routes

The PI07 hiking trail runs between Šafranovka and Vysoká along the Slovak-Polish state border. For the journey from Stará Ľubovňa towards Červený Kláštor, the municipal Pieniny route lists car and bus as means of transport.

The excursion route from Stará Ľubovňa to Plaveč can be travelled by bus, train or car, or completed on foot.
