Sabinov District: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Elements of folk architecture and traditional crafts are still alive in Brezovica today.

Nature

The Čergovský Minčol National Nature Reserve extends into the cadastral area of Kamenica. The private SPR Vlčia nature reserve is located in the cadastral area of Olejníkov; it was the first private nature reserve in Slovakia. The Bišar Nature Reserve protects montane flower meadows where the rare orange lily (Lilium bulbiferum) occurs.

The ponds of Uzovský Šalgov are among the important bodies of water for wildlife in northern Šariš and are used during bird migration and for bird nesting. A nature trail around the ponds provides information about their history and technical features, as well as the animals and plants found there; the ponds are used for controlled fishing.

Hiking and activities

The marked Nižný Slavkov–Bišar–Tichý Potok route is 13.8 kilometres long, takes a total of 3 hours and 50 minutes, and is considered easy. The Čergov Educational and Recreational Trail is an approximately 1-kilometre-long forest path with playful and educational elements relating to the traditional symbols of Čergov, including a shepherd's hut and a wolf's den. It is easiest to reach by the Drienica–Lysá chairlift; alternatively, more experienced hikers can walk up the asphalt road.

The St. Martin Educational Trail has seven stations introducing visitors to the life of Saint Martin and is easy and suitable for all age groups. Ski Búče offers 4.5 kilometres of easy, intermediate and difficult downhill runs for families with children as well as advanced skiers.

The modernised chairlift of SKI Lysá operates not only during the winter season but also in summer, usually at weekends. Drienica, with the summit of Lysá, is a popular destination for hikers and offers cyclists recreational and demanding trail routes. Drienica and Lysá near Sabinov are among the best-known tourist centres.

Culture and history

Kamenica Castle stands on a high limestone cliff above the village of Kamenica and was built in the 13th century; it probably served as a royal hunting castle. From Kamenica, it can be reached via a well-marked footpath with information panels about the history and nature of the village and the castle hill; a less demanding yellow-marked route leads from Lúčky via Potoky.

Hanigovský Castle (New Castle) stands above Hanigovce on a side ridge of the Čergov Mountains and can be reached via a marked path from Hanigovce and Ľutina. The pilgrimage complex in Ľutina includes chapels, a wooden church with a viewing tower, and an open-air museum of wooden churches displaying replicas of wooden churches from Slovakia and neighbouring border regions in one location.

Town, events and recreation

Around Námestie slobody in Sabinov, around 30 burgher houses are protected as heritage monuments. On 19 May 2026, the town of Sabinov officially took over the completed project "CYKLOCHODNÍK HRADOBNÁ ULIČKA SABINOV"; the southern edge of the central heritage zone was extensively revitalised. Sabinov Town Days, including the Market of Sabinov, take place every year in June.

Lipany Thermal Park offers thermal pools, a relaxation zone and a family-friendly atmosphere all year round.
