Štúrovo combines historical, geographical and leisure-related features to create a diverse townscape.

The Šimon and Judas fair is the only one of the four fairs originally held that has survived in Štúrovo. It continues to shape the October festivities and takes place every year at the beginning of October.

Culture and history

The Štúrovo Town Museum is a local museum focusing on ethnography and local history. It is located in a 19th-century building belonging to the Franklovci family. Three rooms are available for the permanent exhibitions, supplemented by a room for temporary exhibitions and an outdoor exhibition in the courtyard.

Since 1993, the Július Barta Town Gallery has been open to the public. Exhibitions by local and foreign artists change there every month. In the park in front of the town hall, the Rozprávajúca skala sculpture commemorates the first written mention of the town. A bronze equestrian statue of the Polish King Jan Sobieski was unveiled in October 2008.

The cultural and historical sights of Štúrovo also include the former synagogue at Hlavná 32. Next to a church is a Baroque Calvary group dating from 1766 with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The town is also home to a protected monument built in the Baroque style in 1701.

Memorial sites and the Mária-Valéria Bridge

The military cemetery with memorial in Štúrovo dates from 1947 and was declared a national cultural monument on 17 July 1963. The military cemetery with memorial on Ul. sv. Štefana is also the only immovable national cultural monument in Štúrovo.

The iron Mária-Valéria Bridge was opened on 28 September 1895. After its reconstruction in 2001, it was ceremonially inaugurated on 11 October 2001. Today, the Mária-Valéria Bridge connects Štúrovo with Esztergom. A viewing bench is located near the bridge on the banks of the Danube and also serves as a photo frame.

Landscape between the Danube and Hron

Štúrovo is surrounded by the Kováčovské kopce hills. The highest peak of this range is Burda, at 395 metres. Near Štúrovo, the Hron flows into the Danube. Here, two distinctive river landscapes meet a hilly region, whose geographical features are also reflected in the cycling routes around the town.

Thermal baths and water activities

A thermal spring with a temperature of 39.3 °C rises on the northern outskirts of Štúrovo. The recreational complex with the Vadaš outdoor swimming pool was built around it on an area of 24 hectares. Vadaš Thermal Resort Štúrovo has eight outdoor and five indoor pools, including the Lagúna wave pool. The resort also has six water slides.

Vadaš Thermal Resort also includes a lake for boating and pedal boating. The water activities therefore range from thermal pools and a wave pool to the aforementioned activities on the lake.

Cycling routes and practical information

The first stage of the Ostrihom–Štúrovo cycling route is 16.8 kilometres long and begins in Štúrovo's pedestrian zone. The second stage, Štúrovo–Kamenný Most–Vŕšok–Nána–Štúrovo, covers 23.8 kilometres and runs along the embankments of the Danube and Hron. The third stage, Štúrovo–Kamenica nad Hronom–Chľaba–Leľa–Bajtava–Chľaba–Štúrovo, is 42.7 kilometres long and suitable only for mountain bikes.

There are two bicycle service stands in Štúrovo for simple repairs; one of them is located near Vadaš Thermal Bath. As another local reference point for the supply of regional products, the Vizamarket webshop was launched on 26 April 2023. It offered fresh homemade products from the region and provided for weekly collection.
