Holiday apartment in Rúbaň: Discover the church, château park and wine

Rúbaň combines prominent cultural monuments, an expansive landscape park and the winemaking tradition of Château Rúbaň. Between the church, château and special natural sites, you will encounter very different aspects of the village: sacred art from several centuries, evidence of even earlier settlement, protected exotic trees and a fishing waterway near the municipality.

Culture and history

Construction of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Imrich began in 1908 on the foundations of an earlier church. Inside, it preserves a polychrome Baroque Pietà from the 18th century, which was brought here from Šaštín in the 19th century. The barrel vault features a 1967 fresco-secco painting of the miraculous multiplication of the loaves, created by the amateur painter Štefan Petica. Above the choir, there are also illusionistic fresco-secco and wall paintings of Saint Stephen and Saint Imrich, created by Pavol Miskolczy in 1979.

Rúbaň Château was built in the second half of the 18th century in the Classicist style, probably by the Horváthy family from Disznós, and was remodelled by the Jankovich family in 1830. It was not originally built as a prestigious winery, but rather as a comfortable summer residence for wealthy families. The older history of the municipality is also documented: a Slavic-Avar cemetery with skeleton burials from the 8th century was discovered here; there had probably already been an earlier settlement at the site.

Another more recent landmark in the village is the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It was erected in Rúbaň in 2025 and consecrated during the Dni obce Rúbaň event on 4 July 2025.

Nature

Next to Rúbaň Château, a 54.77-hectare natural and landscape park has been preserved. The Steiger family established it around 1887. Twelve species of protected exotic trees continue to grow in the park. On the municipal boundary between Rúbaň and Strekov, a willow grove has also been preserved by a pond, forming several romantic corners.

The 10-hectare VN Rúbaň č. 2 fishing waterway is located near the municipality of Rúbaň. It is designated for fishing.

Wine and regional history

Château Rúbaň established an ampelographic collection in memory of a history spanning more than 250 years. Visitors can learn about the characteristic features, history and current condition of the individual grape varieties there, as well as taste grapes and wine made from grapes from this collection. Château Rúbaň combines modern winemaking technologies with traditional methods; the grapes are harvested and sorted by hand.

Château Rúbaň offers wine tastings featuring wines that reflect the distinctive character of the region. Château Rúbaň also provides private parking spaces directly on the premises. At a local event documented in 2024, local winemakers presented their wines.

Municipality and events

The fire station museum in Rúbaň houses a permanent exhibition about the history and present-day life of Rúbaň, as well as the local volunteer fire brigade. Please register in advance at the municipal office to visit this exhibition. During the municipal office’s opening hours, visitors can obtain an anniversary stamp for hiking and travel journals, notebooks, postcards of Rúbaň and similar souvenirs.

The Dni obce Rúbaň 2025 programme included a cultural programme at the cultural centre and continued the following day at the sports field. The event took place on 4 and 5 July 2025. At an event in Rúbaň documented in 2024, attractions for children were also provided.
