Podhájska: Thermal Baths, Cycling Routes and Culture

The Podhájska thermal baths offer year-round opportunities for relaxation and leisure activities. The geothermal water of Podhájska was drilled in 1973 in the area of Podhájska. At a depth of 1,900 metres, the highly mineralised geothermal water reaches temperatures of up to 83°C and is comparable in composition to the quality of the Dead Sea. The Aquamarin Wellness Centre offers a water world, a vitality and sauna world, as well as massages.

Podhájska therefore combines several different wellness focuses: the thermal baths offer the aforementioned year-round opportunities for relaxation and leisure activities, while Aquamarin brings together various types of facilities and services under one name, including its water world, vitality and sauna world, and massages. The information on the origin, mineralisation, depth and temperature describes the special basis of the geothermal water.

The Podhájska Information Centre is located in the building at the main entrance to the thermal bath complex. It provides recommendations for sights, walks, hiking trails and cycling routes, as well as tips for events and excursions in the surrounding area and farther afield. Visitors can therefore find information there both about destinations in the town and about activities in the nearby and wider surroundings.

Cycling

Cycling route 2103 is a 12 km MTB route rated “Leisure”. It runs through the cadastral areas of Podhájska and Radava. Cycling route 8107 starts in Podhájska and runs along the thermal baths.

The two routes already differ in the reference points mentioned: for route 2103, the focus is on its length of 12 km, the “Leisure” difficulty rating and its course through the cadastral areas of Podhájska and Radava. For route 8107, the defining details are its start in Podhájska and its route along the thermal baths.

This makes it possible to consider the routes according to different interests without mixing up their characteristics. Route 2103 is described by its length, MTB character, difficulty rating and areas covered; route 8107 is classified by its starting point and its course along the thermal baths.

Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary on Senčianska Street was built in 1903–1904. The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on Belecká Street was built in 1905–1906.

The two churches therefore date from different periods in the early 1900s and are located on different streets in Podhájska. Hody takes place every year on 11 September in one of Podhájska’s districts. Leisure activities in Podhájska include walks to the “Drevená dedinka” open-air mini-museum.
