Holiday apartment in Chľaba: Nature, Wine and Trails along the Ipeľ and Danube
Chľaba lies where the Ipeľ flows into the Danube. The western part of the village extends into the Kováčovské vrchy–juh national nature reserve. It was designated in 1966 and covers 364.14 hectares.
Nature
The landscape around Chľaba includes the Kováčovské kopce, covered with deciduous forests, their cleared south-eastern slopes with vineyards, and a high loess terrace. The Kováčovské vrchy–juh Nature Reserve is also the northernmost locality of the so-called Pannonian flora. Thus, the river confluence, the forested hills, the vineyard slopes and the loess terrace appear side by side in the verified landscape information.
Culture
Chľaba is home to the Roman Catholic Church of sv. Imricha kráľoviča. It was built in 1769 in the late Baroque style and remodelled after 1800 in the Neoclassical style. Older murals on the vaults were restored in 1994.
The village’s history also includes its wine cellars: a group of six wine cellars was registered as an immovable cultural monument in 2007. Near Chľaba or directly in the village, there are also wine cellars about 10 metres long, with barrel-vaulted ceilings, dug directly into andesite hills.
The Pivničné múzeum was established in 2005 to preserve a unique presentation of architecture and craftsmanship, as well as wine-growing traditions. Valuable objects, equipment, photographs, written documents and other interesting items are kept there. Further information or a visit appointment can be requested from PaedDr. Zlatica Tóthová at 0915/319 946.
Trails
The Kováčovské kopce–juh educational trail has six stations, as well as an introductory information board in Kamenica nad Hronom. It is self-guided, linear, accessible in both directions and open year-round. In addition, a blue-marked trail leads through Veľká dolina to Chľaba.
