Lúčky is a place where a clearly designated cycling route meets a multifaceted history. Cycling is possible on the “Hrádza–Lúčky–Jovsa” route. The town’s broader historical context includes religious traditions, historic viticulture, music, festival culture, and archaeological finds. These themes remain distinct: religious history, the history of viticulture, community culture, and specific artefacts represent different ways of approaching Lúčky.

History and Faith

Lúčky was the seat of a medieval Roman Catholic parish. As early as 1618, Lúčky had a Calvinist church and a Calvinist congregation. The solemn consecration of the newly built church in Lúčky took place on 11 October 1959. The religious references therefore span different periods and include both a medieval parish and a Calvinist church with a congregation, as well as a church rebuilt at a later date.

This chronological range is part of the town’s history: the parish belongs to the medieval period, the Calvinist church and congregation are documented for 1618, and the consecration of the newly built church took place in 1959. These details do not refer to the same religious institution, but to different historical stages in Lúčky. The town’s religious history can thus be viewed across several points in time without equating the institutions or their periods.

Viticulture

Viticulture is also associated with specific years. A document from 1336 contains a written reference to a local vineyard in Lúčky. In 1715, wine continued to be grown in Lúčky; the vineyard area corresponded to the area that 15 people could cultivate in one day. This description of the labour involved makes the size of the vineyard area at the time tangible without converting it into a modern unit of area.

The two references to viticulture convey different kinds of information. The 1336 document confirms the written mention of a local vineyard, whereas the 1715 detail describes the size cultivated at the time in terms of the daily output of 15 people. No modern unit of area has been derived from this. The date, meaning, and scale of the two historical details therefore remain separate.

Culture and Archaeology

The festival culture includes the Folklórne slávnosti held in Lúčky on 10 August 2014. They were the eleventh edition. The musical culture includes “Lučane”, a male vocal group founded in 2002. Another trace leads to archaeology: ceramic fragments and stone tools from various archaeological sites in the municipality were exhibited in a room in the former kindergarten in Lúčky. A dated folklore event, organised male singing, and material evidence from several sites therefore stand side by side.

Transport and Cycling

Lúčky lies directly on Class I road I/50, which connects Michalovce and Sobrance. This road reference therefore specifies both the classification of the connection and the two towns between which it runs. The separate cycling reference is the “Hrádza–Lúčky–Jovsa” route, on which cycling is possible.
