Michalovce District: Water, Trails and Cultural Monuments

Zemplínska Šírava is the second-largest reservoir in Slovakia and has seven recreational centres. At Zemplínska Šírava, visitors can enjoy activities both on the water and on land: swimming, water sports and fishing are complemented by mountain biking and hiking. Jetskis, yachts and pedal boats are also available. Before visiting a recreational centre, check the current opening or usage hours; for jetskis, yachts and pedal boats, the applicable time information should be followed.

At Vinianske Lake, visitors can swim, sail and hike, and in winter they can ice-skate. The lake covers 8 hectares. From Vinné, Vinianske Lake can be reached via a road that runs around the lake, as well as via hiking trails. Water and Trails

Marked hiking trails lead from Vinianske Jazero and from the Hôrka, Medvedia Hora and Kamenec recreational centres at Zemplínska Šírava to Vinné Castle. Vinné Castle was declared a cultural monument in 1963. The Náučný chodník Vihorlatskými bučinami educational trail begins in Poruba pod Vihorlatom at the foot of the Vihorlatské vrchy. Zemplínska Šírava is connected by a paved four-lane road and several SAD bus services from both bus stations in Michalovce. Vinné Castle and Zemplínska Šírava are connected by these marked trails. For hikes and mountain-bike tours, it is advisable to check the current trail conditions in advance. For travel by SAD buses, the current timetables applicable before departure should be followed. When touring on marked trails, current trail conditions should be checked in advance.

Culture

The Klenotnica exhibition at the Zemplínske Museum is located on the first floor of the restored central Baroque-Classical manor house. The central section of the Sztáray Manor, which houses the Zemplínske Museum, contains permanent exhibitions on art history and religious art. The Zemplínske Museum is housed in a manor house designated as a cultural monument. Anyone wishing to visit the museum or a manor house should check the respective opening hours. Senné Manor is a national cultural monument. It was built as a manor house in the 16th century and remodelled in the Renaissance style in the 17th century. Senné Manor serves as the gateway to the Senianske rybníky protected bird area and is considered one of the oldest and one of the last surviving buildings of its kind in Lower Zemplín.

Hrádok is a mountain in the immediate vicinity of Michalovce District. Grúň is a mountain in the vicinity of Michalovce District. Hiriač is a mountain in the vicinity of Michalovce District. Kyjov is a mountain in the vicinity of Michalovce District. In the wider regional surroundings of Michalovce District lies Jasenov Castle Ruins, a ruin.
