Konstantinovskiy has a clearly identifiable local cultural attraction: the Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov is active. Beyond that, the wider destination of Yaroslavl Oblast offers striking landscapes, cultural heritage, and a range of experiences. The contrast between nature at Lake Pleshcheyevo and the region’s museums and architectural monuments is especially tangible.

Nature in the wider destination of Yaroslavl Oblast

Pleshcheyevo Ozero National Park in Yaroslavl Oblast is a federally designated protected area. Nature conservation, environmental education, and recreation are among its special purposes. It is also notable for its rich natural diversity, rare or well-preserved typical ecological communities, and rare and endangered plant and animal species. The region’s nature theme therefore extends beyond individual activities and also encompasses the protection of its habitats.

The “V gostyakh u Seroy Tsapli” (“A Visit to the Grey Heron”) ecological trail runs along the northeastern shore of Lake Pleshcheyevo through an open shoreline area. It is about one kilometre long and runs directly alongside the water. The trail includes a wooden boardwalk, an observation tower on the lakeshore, and three information panels. Visitors can also learn about around 50 bird species that live in the area and their biology. Its lakeside location, viewpoint, and nature interpretation make the trail a concrete example of the landscape and birdlife themes of Yaroslavl Oblast.

Water sports are also represented as a regional theme: there is a sailing zone on the northeastern shore of the lake, opposite the turnoff to Gorodishche. A boat station belonging to Pleshcheyevo Ozero National Park is also located opposite this turnoff. Check the local operating conditions before travelling to the sailing zone; if you plan to use the boat station, enquire in advance about the services currently offered.

Culture and architecture in Yaroslavl Oblast

The architecture of Yaroslavl Oblast can be seen in buildings from different periods. In Pereslavl-Zalessky, the Transfiguration Cathedral dates from the 12th century. It is considered the city’s oldest church and the earliest surviving architectural monument of the Vladimir-Suzdal school. The Uglich Kremlin offers a contrast as a surviving ensemble dating from the 15th to the 19th century. It comprises the princely chambers, the Church of Tsarevich Dmitry, the former city duma building with museum exhibitions, and the Transfiguration Cathedral with its bell tower. The 33,560 m² complex also includes an extensive park with trees dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, a pond, and a moat. Together, an early standalone building and an ensemble that developed over centuries offer different historical perspectives.

Museums also offer a variety of perspectives. In Rybinsk, the museum-reserve is housed in the building of the New Grain Exchange, erected in 1912 on the high bank of the Volga to a design by Moscow architect A. V. Ivanov. The N. M. Alekseyev Museum of the Mologa Region in Rybinsk offers tours of its museum galleries, as well as interactive activities with competitions, prizes, and refreshments. Check with the museum for current dates.

For contemporary art, the “Na Rostovskoy” Museum Centre in Pereslavl-Zalessky holds at least 30 exhibitions of contemporary artists each year. At the Emalis Enamel Art Museum in Yaroslavl, visitors can learn about the history of the craft, see works by Russian and European artists, and make a pendant or a picture themselves. If you would like to take part in a hands-on activity, check current workshop options directly with the museum.

Plan your stay around your interests

When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to decide first what you would like to focus on: should Konstantinovskiy itself be the local focus of your trip, or would you also like to include nature, architecture, and museum experiences across the wider destination of Yaroslavl Oblast? The examples vary considerably in character, from a short lakeside trail focused on birdlife to historic architecture and museum offerings.
