The church, local history, and landscape give Tepikinskaya several specific points of interest: the village is home to the Church of the Archangel Michael, the local history museum features archaeology and Bronze Age pottery, and the nearby area includes the banks of the Khoper River and pine forest. Volgograd Oblast also offers its own cultural and natural attractions.

The Church of the Archangel Michael

The Church of the Archangel Michael belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church and is part of the Volgograd Metropolis, the Uryupinsk Diocese, and the Uryupinsk Deanery. Services are held in Church Slavonic. For those interested in Orthodox traditions, Tepikinskaya offers a specific connection to the church, which can also be experienced through the language of the service. If you would like to visit the church, check visiting arrangements and service times in advance.

Local History Museum: Archaeology and Pottery

The Tepikinsky Local History Museum features the interactive exhibition “Archaeological Site” and holds workshops on making Bronze Age coiled pottery on a potter’s wheel. The activities offer different perspectives: an archaeological exhibition topic is presented alongside a specific craft technique. This makes a museum visit especially interesting if you are interested in archaeology and ceramics. Check visiting arrangements and workshop dates in advance.

Water and Forests in the Municipality

The landscape can also be explored beyond the village itself. In the Akchernskoye rural settlement, the four settlements of Akchernsky, Dyakonovsky 1-y, Dolgovsky, and Tepikinskaya lie on both sides of the Akchernya stream, which flows into the Khoper River. A pine forest on the banks of the Khoper is also located near Tepikinskaya. There you will find recreation centers and the Kolos children’s holiday camp, which belongs to the regional health and spa institution Volgogradoblzdravnitsa.

Culture and Landscapes of Volgograd Oblast

Different historical perspectives can be found side by side in Volgograd Oblast. In Pyatimorsk, the Park of the History of the Russian State was established in 2012, the year of the 60th anniversary of the opening of the Volga–Don Canal. The park lies on the banks of the navigable canal. It includes an Alley of the Great Patriotic War, with busts of generals and marshals, as well as Generalissimo I. V. Stalin. The Staraya Sarepta Museum Reserve offers a different focus: its architectural ensemble in the Saxon Baroque style comprises 26 buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The “Battle of Stalingrad” Panorama Museum, in turn, has eight halls with exhibits from the Great Patriotic War and four painted dioramas depicting episodes of the Battle of Stalingrad. The range therefore extends from a memorial alley to a historic architectural ensemble and a museum with dioramas.

The landscapes of Volgograd Oblast also vary considerably. In the east lies Lake Elton, Europe’s largest salt lake, covering 152 km². Since 2001, the lake and surrounding areas have been designated a specially protected natural area; Elton Nature Park was also established. In Shcherbakovsky Nature Park, the areas known as “Volga Switzerland” lie on a plateau along the Volga River. The wide Shcherbakovskaya Ravine is characterized by forest, flowers, and grasses. By contrast, Tsimlyanskiye Peski Nature Park in Chernyshevsky District is a sandy massif. The region’s landscapes thus range from a salt lake and river plateau to a ravine and sandy area.

For more active outdoor experiences, Donskoy Nature Park offers hikes along tourist routes and nature trails, as well as kayaking on the Don and Ilovlya rivers. Walking trails and trips on the water provide two different ways to experience nature there. When looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide what to focus on: Tepikinskaya’s local attractions or the museums, landscapes, and activities of Volgograd Oblast.
