Kozlovo: Karelian Culture and Village History
Accommodation in Kozlovo
Kozlovo can be explored through two distinctive themes: Karelian culture and the historic village center. An exhibition, a local tradition surrounding a wooden sculpture, and events give local culture different forms. The historic ensemble, in turn, brings together the Vvedensky Cathedral and residential and public buildings around the central village square.
Karelian Culture in Exhibition and Tradition
The museum exhibition “Karelian Izba of the 1920s” at the Kozlovo village library contains around 200 artifacts. Most are over 100 years old, and some are approximately 200 years old. Anyone interested in Karelian culture will find a tangible introduction here through objects and their history. A wooden goat sculpture is also part of the village’s character. According to local residents, it brings good luck and well-being to everyone who touches it.
The village library also initiated the annual Days of Karelian Culture. The 8th interregional festival of Karelian culture, OMA RANDA, took place in Kozlovo in 2026. Its themed areas focused on the customs and traditions of the Tver Karelians. The exhibition, local tradition, and cultural events thus offer different points of focus, without any one theme needing to define the entire stay.
Historic Village Center
The historic ensemble in the village center includes the Vvedensky Cathedral and residential and public buildings around the central village square. The cathedral was built between 1803 and 1834. Another historically significant building is a log cabin dating from the mid- to third quarter of the 19th century, which is used as a museum of the New Martyrs and Confessors.
This gives you a clear cultural focus when choosing where to stay: the cathedral and buildings around the village square represent the history of the center, while the exhibition and events explore Karelian traditions. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether this combination of village history and culture is what you want your stay to revolve around. You can then choose accommodation based on your own requirements.
What the Festival Program Offered
At OMA RANDA 2026, folk artists offered workshops for everyone interested, covering how to make kalitki, weaving, wood carving, painting and clay modeling, as well as decorating toys and gingerbread. There was also a short introductory lesson in Karelian on the subject of “Tender Words.” The program thus combined craft activities with an introduction to the language.
The same festival program included the Summer Karelian Games, featuring Karelian gorodki, lapta, volleyball, and basketball. The workshops and games represent different aspects of that year’s program: trying out crafts and language in one part, and group activities in another. These offerings are documented for the 2026 edition; they do not automatically describe the programs of later events.
Nature Activities in the Wider Destination of Tver Oblast
For those who would also like to explore nature alongside Kozlovo’s cultural attractions, more options are available in the wider destination of Tver Oblast. Guided walks are offered along ecological trails in the Central Forest Nature Reserve. The educational trail passes through a raised bog, with wide-open areas covered entirely in moss and unusual plants. Visitors need their own vehicle for an excursion to the raised bog.
For a different kind of itinerary, you can take a hike as a day trip or stay overnight in a forest cabin. Along the way, you will see southern taiga forest and a raised bog. These regional nature activities differ both in their landscape and in the time they require.
