Strezhevoy can be explored through three specific themes: the city park on the Pasol River, the city’s early history and oil production, which shapes the regional context. Nature, historical developments and technology are presented side by side. When looking for a holiday apartment, this range of themes can help guide your choice: consider whether you would like to focus your trip mainly on forest landscapes, city history or insights into the oil industry. The sites and exhibitions offer a specific starting point for each of these interests.

Pasol City Park

Strezhevoy’s city park, also known as the Park of the 50th Anniversary of the Komsomol, includes a cedar forest along the Pasol River, a sandy riverbank and numerous forest paths. The forest, riverbank and paths together shape the park’s landscape. Travelers who give greater priority to nature when planning their trip will find a clear contrast here to the exhibitions on history and oil production. The combination of cedar forest and sandy riverbank gives the park a character distinct from the city’s cultural and historical sites.

Nature and City History at the Museum

At Strezhevoy’s Museum of History and Local Lore, the permanent exhibition “V garmonii s prirodoy” explores the region’s natural resources and wildlife. Birds and mammals are among its topics, as are the remains of mammoths and woolly rhinoceroses. The exhibition also includes everyday objects and aspects of hunting and fishing among the small Indigenous peoples of the North. Nature and insights into human ways of life thus come together in a permanent exhibition. This complements the impression of the forest and river landscape with a perspective on regional wildlife and everyday life.

A second exhibition at the same museum, “Strezhevoy — gorod na strezhne,” is devoted to the city’s history. It covers the first special settlement, the life stories of its residents and the development of the oil and gas complex in the north of Tomsk Oblast. One specific historical landmark is Strezhevoy’s first house: a wooden residential building erected in 1966. Its commemorative plaque records that on July 23, 1966, the Tomsk student construction team “Neftyanik” laid the foundation stone for the future Strezhevoy. While the exhibition places the city’s history in a broader context, the plaque records a specific date and construction event.

Insights into Oil Production

The History Museum of OAO «Tomskneft» VNK is located at 32 Stroiteley Street. It is devoted to the history of oil exploration and production by AO «Tomskneft» VNK, as well as to teaching school pupils and students about technology and the fundamentals of oil production. Its focus is therefore on technology and production; the museum complements the city’s history with a specific technical subject and its presentation to learners.

Planning Your Trip

When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to first decide what kind of trip you want: will nature, city history or a technical subject be at the center? Strezhevoy offers different starting points for each—its park, exhibitions and historic wooden residence. The themes also take different forms: landscape sits alongside permanent exhibitions and a site with a specific commemorative plaque. Check the current visitor arrangements at each institution before visiting a museum.
