Cheryomushki: Hydropower, views and winter experiences
Accommodation in Cheryomushki
Cheryomushki brings together hydropower history and active experiences: at the museum, interactive experiments make technical concepts tangible, while the “Cheremukhovy Log” complex focuses on winter sports and views. There is also a decorated hall in the “Energetik” Palace of Culture and another viewpoint at the “Orlinoye Gnezdo” tourist complex. This gives you a choice of culture, technology, activity and scenery when planning your trip.
Discover hydropower
The Hydropower Museum offers visitors interactive experiments, including a model hydropower plant and measuring electrical resistance. Guided tours cover the history of hydropower, from the first dams to modern facilities, and also include the construction and operation of the Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Power Station. You can explore practical experiments and the development of hydropower as different ways of engaging with the same subject. Telephone registration is required for excursions; confirm the details with the operator.
The Mirror Hall of the “Energetik” Palace of Culture offers a very different focal point. Carved wooden panels based on designs by Leningrad artist Pesis, marble and custom-made Czech glass chandeliers define the space. The hall complements the technical themes with a tangible encounter with design and materials.
Winter sports and trails at “Cheremukhovy Log”
The ski complex has a snow-tubing run and an option for cross-country skiing. The red run is 600 metres long and the blue one is 1,000 metres. These figures make it possible to compare the different trail lengths without specifying a particular descent time. Snow tubing is for adults and young visitors; the weight limit is 130 kilograms per tube. As this operating rule may change, check with the operator before your visit.
The snow park includes rails, a jump and boxes. Instructors from the “Fristail” club can help you learn or improve your jibbing—the practice of riding on features like these. Facilities and lessons may vary by season. There are also hiking trails within the complex. A large ice rink is set up nearby, but its seasonal availability is not guaranteed.
A cable car takes you to a viewpoint with panoramic views of Cheryomushki and the Yenisei. Its operation is seasonal and may be affected by maintenance. Check current visitor information before planning your ride.
Views and a short trail
The “Orlinoye Gnezdo” tourist complex opened in Cheryomushki at the end of 2025. Its first viewpoint, “Sokolinoe Gnezdo,” was added in 2025. From there, you can see the spillway outlet of the Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Power Station, the Yenisei, the Sayan Mountains and the Borus Range. The viewpoint brings technical infrastructure and landscape together in a single panorama.
The complex also includes a developed ecological trail 200 metres long. It lets you add a short walk to your visit rather than focusing solely on the panoramic view. Check the current conditions in advance; the complex’s opening is a dated fact and, on its own, does not indicate whether it is accessible today.
Plan your stay around your interests
When looking for a holiday apartment in Cheryomushki, it helps to decide what you want to focus on first. If you are interested in technology, you can make the museum and hydropower history the centrepiece of your trip; if you are looking for winter activities, “Cheremukhovy Log” offers snow tubing, cross-country skiing and a snow park. Viewpoints and hiking trails offer further options to consider.
More landscapes in the Republic of Khakassia
In the wider destination of the Republic of Khakassia, the Ivanovskie Lakes offer a contrasting landscape: the four freshwater lakes are fed by glacial meltwater and linked by small waterfalls. They lie in the Kuznetsk Alatau at an elevation of 1,300 metres. The third and fourth lakes are accessible only to prepared or experienced hikers; conditions may vary by season. This regional overview presents the lakes as a separate destination within the republic, not as a feature of Cheryomushki.
