Baymakskiy District: Talkas Lake, Waterfall and Museums
Accommodation in Baymakskiy District
In Baymakskiy District, natural attractions sit alongside museums devoted to a range of subjects. Talkas Lake lies at the western foot of the Irenyk mountain range; Gadelsha Waterfall changes its appearance with the seasons. Museums in several localities tell stories of music, regional history and the lives of notable individuals. When choosing a holiday rental, you can first consider whether you want to focus mainly on natural attractions, cultural sites or a mix of both.
Talkas Lake: location, measurements and natural setting
Talkas Lake lies at an elevation of 548.5 metres at the western foot of the Irenyk mountain range. Since 2021, it has been a hydrological natural monument and lies within Irenyk Nature Park. Covering an area of 395.4 hectares, it is 4 kilometres long and an average of 1 to 1.3 kilometres wide. Its average depth is 4.5 metres, and its maximum depth is 12 metres. It is considered the highest-elevation lake in Bashkortostan.
Its geological and hydrological features are also documented: the lake is of tectonic origin, and its muddy bottom is covered with sapropel. A temporary outflow feeds into the Shugur, a tributary of the Tanalyk. This means Talkas Lake can be understood not only by its location and size, but also by its connection to the water network. These details make it a clearly defined natural attraction to consider when planning your trip.
Gadelsha and seasonal water flow
Gadelsha Waterfall lies on the eastern slope of the Irenyk mountain range, near the high, rocky peak of Yamantash. It consists of three cascades; the two upper ones are each 7 metres high. Its seasonal changes are pronounced: in early spring, the river carries more water and the waterfall is at its most impressive. During summer drought, by contrast, it becomes a small, quiet stream. The time of year is therefore an important consideration when comparing natural attractions.
The area around the waterfall also has a botanical distinction: more than 270 plant species grow there, including relict and endemic species. So at Gadelsha, the focus is not only on the cascades but also on the surrounding plant life.
Museums and local history
In Temyasovo, a two-storey former building of the government and parliament of Bashkortostan now houses a museum. Another perspective is offered by the Gata Suleymanov Museum in 1-Turkmenovo: it was founded in 1992 in the musician G. Z. Suleymanov's home village. The museum displays personal belongings and musical instruments that he bequeathed during his lifetime. Its collection includes more than 700 items, including awards and photographic and documentary material about his life and work as a kurai player.
In Urgaza, the Museum of Virgin Lands focuses on the development of the virgin lands; since 2006, it has been a branch of the Baymak Historical and Local Lore Museum. The house of Muzhavir-Khazrat in Bakhtigareyevo (Mansurovo) is also now a museum. This early-20th-century architectural monument houses personal belongings, holy books and household items. Together, the museums cover a range of subjects: from a historical institution and music to the development of the virgin lands, a personal collection and sacred books.
Another archaeological attraction is the Turkmenovo rock carving, on a rocky outcrop on Mount Tugazhman. It lies 3 kilometres west of 1-Turkmenovo and faces the Tuyalyas River. When looking for a holiday rental, you can take into account the places that interest you most. Check current visiting arrangements before visiting a museum.
