Suksun combines the history of copper craft with samovar traditions and a landscape of pond and pine trees. Museums, a monument and a church reveal different aspects of the town’s history; the Plakun Waterfall adds a natural attraction nearby, close to Sasykovo. When choosing a holiday apartment, consider what you want to focus on: should your stay be devoted mainly to the collections and history, or would you also like to plan a nature excursion? Accommodation in Suksun puts the town itself at the centre of your stay; you can include the waterfall as an additional item on your itinerary.

Copper Craft and Samovars

At the Suksun Museum of Local History at 52 Pervomaiskaya Street, the exhibition “Suksun – Centre of Copper Products” in the main building features the interior of a workshop belonging to an artisan coppersmith. The workshop setting makes copper craft tangible as practical work. In Verkhniy Park, in the centre of Suksun, stands a 3.2-metre-high samovar monument, described as the only one of its kind in Russia. The Museum of Suksun Samovar Craft is at 3 Khalturina Street. Samovars of various shapes are displayed on the second floor; old everyday objects can be seen on the first floor. The layout presents samovars and everyday objects as two distinct aspects of a museum visit.

Church, Interiors and Tea Traditions

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is an architectural monument at 4 Solina Street. It was built in 1729–1730 on the orders of former factory owner Akinfi Nikitich Demidov, at the same time as the Suksun Copper Smelter was being built. This brings architectural and industrial history together in a specific timeframe. In the Local History Museum’s “Kamenski Entrepreneurs, Benefactors and Patrons” hall, visitors can see an Art Nouveau interior from the Kamenski family home and a portrait of the lady of the house, Lidia Nikolayevna. Alongside architectural history and craft, this part of the exhibition focuses on a domestic interior and a specific person. The “Tea Room” exhibition at the Suksun Museum opened in 2017 and is devoted to Suksun’s tea-drinking traditions.

Pond, Pine Trees and Waterfall

The Suksun Pond is in the administrative centre of Suksun and is a flow-through body of water. Part of a pine forest borders the pond, with some pine trees reaching 32 metres in height. The trees are on average 90 to 120 years old; some of the largest pines date from the early 19th century. Their measurements and ages make the trees a natural attraction in their own right, alongside the museums: water and forest offer a different focus from local history and exhibitions. Another natural attraction is nearby. The Plakun Waterfall is on the left bank of the Sylva, not far from the village of Sasykovo, and is a natural monument of regional significance. On a steep slope, two springs converge and plunge from a height of seven metres onto a rocky bank. The pond in the administrative centre and the waterfall near Sasykovo thus offer two distinct natural settings.

Plan Your Visit and Choose the Right Base

Guided tours at the Suksun Museum of Local History are available on weekends and public holidays by prior arrangement. If you would like a guided tour, arrange it in advance and confirm the details before your visit. You can reach the Local History Museum by taking a scheduled bus to Suksun Bus Station and then walking through Verkhniy Park; check current bus services before you travel. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can base your priorities on what you want to see: if museums, the church and the samovar monument are your main focus, look for accommodation in Suksun. If you also want to visit the Plakun Waterfall, include the attraction near Sasykovo as a separate item in your plans. This will help you choose a base that suits the themes of your stay.
