Perm can be explored on foot, through a variety of museum themes, and along the Kama River Embankment. The “Green Line” brings together historic and modern sites in a self-guided city walk. If you would also like to include nature and other cultural themes in your plans, the separate destination of Perm Krai has worthwhile places to explore as well.

Discover Perm along the Green Line

The “Green Line” tourist walking route covers 41 historic and modern sites. Residents and visitors can explore the city’s most notable places independently, without a guide. The approximate duration is given as 1.5 to 2 hours—a specific timeframe you can use to plan your city walk. Check the latest route details before setting out.

Stops include the Chapel of St Stephen of Perm, the “Permyak – Salty Ears” sculpture, the Central Exhibition Hall, and the Transfiguration Cathedral.

Museums and walks along the Kama River

The Perm Artillery Museum displays military equipment from the 19th to the 21st century in its outdoor area. The Perm Museum of Antiquities offers a very different perspective: it focuses on the history of the Earth and prehistoric plants and animals studied by paleontology. The exhibition is located on the fourth floor at 15 Sibirskaya Street. Access is limited for visitors with reduced mobility—an important consideration when planning a museum visit.

As a change of pace from the walking route and museum visits, the Kama River Embankment is a place for walks and relaxation. The city experiences described here range from a self-guided route past historic and modern sites, through two clearly distinct museum themes, to time by the river.

Choose an apartment based on your plans

When looking for an apartment in Perm, it helps to first decide which city experiences matter most to you. If the Green Line, museums, and river embankment are your main interests, choose based on the visits you have planned in Perm. If you are also including destinations elsewhere in the wider destination of Perm Krai, plan them as a separate part of your trip: the nature and cultural themes mentioned there are distinct from the city experiences in Perm.

More to explore in Perm Krai

At the Basegi Nature Reserve, there is an excursion route called “To the Summit of Northern Baseg.” The circular route is 11 kilometres long; the total duration, including the guided tour and rest breaks, is 5 to 8 hours. It starts at the checkpoint by the Schastlivy ranger station and continues on foot for 3,700 metres through taiga forest and about 300 metres across mountain meadows. The excursion season runs from June to October. Check the reserve’s current arrangements before planning your visit. Another excursion route there leads “To Southern Baseg.”

The visitor centre at Basegi Nature Reserve has a small museum exhibition about the flora and fauna of Perm Krai. Environmental education discussions, lectures, quizzes, and games featuring films and multimedia presentations are held there regularly. In addition to the route, the region’s natural environment is explored through these themes and event formats.

The year-round Gubakha Resort offers a different experience: it is located in the city of Gubakha, on Mount Krestovaya in Perm Krai. Seven groomed ski runs are open there, and there are also eleven slopes for freeriders. The number of freeride slopes may change, so check this information before planning your visit. Khokhlovka adds a focus on wooden architecture to the region’s attractions: it is the first open-air architectural and ethnographic museum of wooden architecture in the Urals.
