Podolsk combines church architecture from different centuries with a historic landscape and opportunities for outdoor activities. The Trinity Cathedral stands out for its five domes; archaeological traces in the Podolye Museum Reserve date back to the Mesolithic. Talalikhin Park offers leisurely walks alongside a combined cycling and ski-roller track and winter activities. This provides a range of options for planning your trip, from culture and landscape to outdoor pursuits.

Churches from different periods

Among the churches in the southern part of the Moscow region built in the Neoclassical style in the first half of the 19th century, Podolsk’s Trinity Cathedral is the only one with five domes. The stone Church of the Resurrection represents an earlier period: it was consecrated at the end of the 18th century. Its side altars are dedicated to Saint Nicholas and the Holy Life-Giving Trinity. This brings a distinctive architectural point of comparison together with the specific history of two side altars, each associated with a different historical period.

Landscape and history at the Podolye Museum Reserve

The Podolye Museum Reserve is located in the historic part of Podolsk and covers more than 13 hectares. Elements of the historic landscape of the Pakhra River basin include a meadow park and an orchard with more than 150 plant species. The reserve also contains archaeological monuments dating from the Mesolithic onwards. The preserved house of teacher V. P. Kedrova is also part of the museum reserve. The Ulyanov family rented it in 1900; V. I. Lenin visited twice. The archaeological monuments and the house rental mark different historical periods within the reserve.

Walks and sports activities

Talalikhin Park has a riverside promenade for leisurely walks and a combined cycling and ski-roller track. In winter, an ice rink and skate rental are available to visitors. The focus differs depending on whether you are looking for a promenade, the combined track or ice skating in winter. Before your trip, it is a good idea to check the latest visitor information for the ice rink and skate rental.

The Krasnaya Gorka ski complex is located on a hill above a dam on the Pakhra River and offers opportunities for skiing and snowboarding. The Podolsk Local History Museum organises walking and bus tours of the city, as well as themed excursions. If you would like to plan a tour, ask the museum about current dates.

Another cultural highlight nearby

Nearby is Dubrovitsy, a separate settlement and not part of Podolsk itself. The Znamenskaya Church there is a Baroque church built on the grounds of the Dubrovitsy estate around the turn of the 18th century. Its style, period of construction and association with the estate add a distinct example from the surrounding area to Podolsk’s churches.

Plan your trip around your interests

When looking for a holiday apartment in Podolsk, your preferred kind of trip can be a good starting point. Those focusing on churches, historic sites and guided tours will plan differently from those who prefer walks and sports activities. Winter adds a seasonal choice to the leisure programme, since the ice rink and skate rental at Talalikhin Park are available then.
