Ozëry: History, Parks and the Drevnerusskaya Oka Route
Accommodation in Ozëry
Ozëry offers several ways to spend your time here: the local history museum explores the history of the town and its surroundings, two parks each have their own character, and the one-day “Drevnerusskaya Oka” route starts at the beach. You can plan your holiday around exhibitions, green spaces and a dedicated day for the route.
History at the Local History Museum
The Ozëry Local History Museum displays artefacts from the medieval settlement of Rostislavl Ryazanskiy. It was founded on the banks of the Oka in the 12th century and was probably abandoned in the 17th century. The settlement was near the site of what later became Ozëry. The museum therefore focuses not only on the town, but also on an earlier chapter in the area’s history.
Another exhibition is devoted to the paper-weaving and textile industries that emerged in Ozëry in the 19th century. These include the “Tovarishchestvo Shcherbakova i synovey” manufactory and the factories of Morgunov and Karyakin. After the 1917 Revolution, they became part of the “Rabochiy” textile and cotton combine. These milestones trace the development of local industry across several businesses and a political upheaval.
The life and work of the writer Dmitry Grigorovich also have their own exhibition. The region has another connection to him in Dulebino: Dmitry Vasilyevich Grigorovich spent his childhood in this village. One of the museum’s halls is also devoted to the region’s military history. Its exhibits include documents, photographs and soldiers’ personal belongings. If you are planning a museum visit, check the opening hours in advance.
Two Parks with Different Attractions
Sosnovy Bor Park is not yet complete, but it is already open to visitors. Its facilities include children’s and playground areas, pavilions, art installations and covered seating areas with benches and swings. There are also cycle paths and a dog exercise area. With its mix of play, seating and activity areas, the park offers a different kind of experience from a museum visit. Since the project is still unfinished, it is worth checking the current conditions before you visit.
The Dubki Culture and Leisure Park has sports and play facilities, including a roller-ski track. A stage is intended for cultural events, and a planted maze surrounds the “Kamen zhelaniy” (Wishing Stone). The park also hosts themed events, activity programmes and larger celebrations. As no fixed events calendar is provided, check the dates in advance if you want a particular programme to shape your stay.
A Route for a Full Day
The one-day “Drevnerusskaya Oka” route starts at Ozëry’s town beach and is suitable for participants with no prior experience. It offers a full-day plan alongside the exhibitions and parks. The route is described as a regular offering; current dates and availability may change. So check in advance whether the route is available on your planned day.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Ozëry, your preferred way to spend your days may be the deciding factor: if you want to learn about the town’s history and industry as well as the writer, the local history museum brings several themes together under one roof. For time in the park, Sosnovy Bor offers seating areas and cycle paths, while Dubki has sports facilities, a maze and events. The route, in turn, takes up a full day.
