In Dolgoprudny, several very different threads come together: airship history, museum exhibitions, works of art and the historic buildings in Mysovo. The Dolgoprudny Historical and Art Museum covers technical history, the construction of a waterway and the past of the area; beyond the museum, these themes lead to a former airfield and a former estate. A park path and a sculpture group offer other points of interest. Those exploring the city can choose between exhibitions, architecture and time outdoors.

Airship history between the airfield and the museum

On the edge of the former Dirizhablestroy airfield stands the art installation “Dirizhabl” (“Airship”). Airships once took off from this airfield; today, Umberto Nobile Boulevard is located there. This ties the site’s former use to a specific place, rather than making it just a museum topic. At the Dolgoprudny Historical and Art Museum, the exhibition “Vozdukhoplavanie i dirizhablestroyeniye” (Aviation and Airship Building) focuses on aviation and airship construction. It presents Dolgoprudny as a center of Soviet airship building. The art installation and exhibition thus offer two different points of connection for travelers interested in this history.

Exhibitions offering different perspectives

The exhibition “Vklad Dolgoprudnogo v Pobedu” (“Dolgoprudny’s Contribution to Victory”) features photographs, documents, uniforms, models of military equipment, weapon models and works of art. This combination of images, documents and objects offers a different approach from the exhibition on airship building. A separate exhibition is titled “Kanal Moskva-Volga. 1932-1937” (“Moscow-Volga Canal. 1932–1937”) and covers the construction of the artificial waterway between the Volga and the Moskva River. The museum thus brings together a range of subjects: air travel, waterway construction and the contribution of Dolgoprudny to victory, as named in the exhibition title.

The museum has also recreated the study of linguist and Russian Academy of Sciences academician Oleg Nikolayevich Trubachyov. The room contains a desk, books and documents. The reconstructed room offers a different focus from the themed exhibitions: here, the study and the objects displayed in it take center stage.

The museum offers bookable group tours for visitors of all ages, both at the museum and at external venues such as schools and kindergartens. Check the museum’s booking page for specific arrangements.

Mysovo: Architecture and park

In the historic district of Mysovo, two buildings erected by the Kuznetsovs have been well preserved on the estate grounds: the stone “White House,” with a corner turret, and the two-storey wooden “Agronomist’s House” in the “à la russe” style. Their differences are easy to identify: stone and a corner turret mark the White House, while the Agronomist’s House stands out for its wooden construction, two storeys and named style.

Only part of the estate’s once-large park remains. In Mysovo Park, visitors can stroll along a stone path lined with old trees. Together with the buildings, the park offers a distinctive view of Mysovo: alongside the surviving architecture is a park landscape of which only part of the former estate park remains.

Art in public spaces

The sculpture group “Yamshchik i dvoika loshadey” (“Coachman and Pair of Horses”) stands in front of Dolgoprudny Central Park. Visitors are allowed to climb onto the horses. Unlike the museum exhibitions or historic buildings, this offers a direct way to interact with a work of art. The sculpture thus complements the historical themes with another way to experience art in Dolgoprudny.

Choose a holiday rental to suit your travel interests

When looking for a holiday rental in Dolgoprudny, it helps to start with the main focus of your trip. If airship history is to be the connecting theme, the art installation and museum exhibition offer different points of connection. Those especially interested in historic architecture and walks can plan to visit the estate buildings and park in Mysovo. A trip combining both puts cultural history and time outdoors on the itinerary as separate activities.
