Gelendzhik is defined by its long shoreline: the promenade, lighthouse and city beach each offer a different perspective. Other attractions include boat trips, a municipal exhibition space and the Safari Park. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment, consider whether you’d like to experience Gelendzhik mainly through its coast, cultural sites or excursions.

The waterfront promenade as a point of reference

The waterfront promenade is considered Gelendzhik’s main attraction. It stretches for around 12 km between Cape Tolstoy and Cape Tonky, with a cycle path running along its entire length. The Old Lighthouse stands on the central waterfront promenade. It is an architectural monument and the oldest lighthouse still in operation on Russia’s Black Sea coast.

The long stretch of coast and continuous cycle path give the promenade a different scale from individual attractions. Use this to tailor your holiday apartment search to the kind of trip you have planned.

City beach and boat trips

The Central City Beach is an artificial beach created by land reclamation. It stretches for one kilometre from Lermontov Boulevard to the cruiser and sailing school. This section offers a clear contrast to the long promenade: it is defined by its two endpoints and differs in length from the waterfront route.

Boat trips are also among the experiences described. A 2015 article reports that most trips depart from the central pier, and that excursions into the open sea, including swimming and fishing, are also offered. The main destinations offered to tourists include Golubaya Bay, the village of Kabardinka and the village of Praskoveevka, home to the Parus Rock. If a boat trip is important to your plans, check in advance which trips are currently available.

Art, maritime museum and Safari Park

The city exhibition space displays works by professional and self-taught artists from Gelendzhik and the surrounding region. This offers a glimpse of local artistic life alongside work from the wider area. The Safari Park was founded as an animal rehabilitation centre. The park grounds are also home to the maritime museum “Iz glubiny vekov i vod” (“From the Depths of Centuries and Waters”) and a bear cave.

A regional perspective on the wine route

Beyond Gelendzhik, Krasnodar Krai offers a distinct thematic route: “Vinnye dorogi Krasnodarskogo kraya” (Wine Roads of Krasnodar Krai) passes through Anapa, Taman, Golubitskaya, Sennoy, Moldavanskoye, Novorossiysk, Abrau-Dyurso, Fedotovka and Gelendzhik. The route presents the more than 2,500-year history of viticulture and winemaking in Krasnodar Krai. Interactive exhibitions and installations bring this history to life for visitors. The route lists visits to 20 wineries as an option; this number may change. Check the route before planning specific stops.
