Protected landscapes, thermal springs and designated hiking trails come together in Yelizovsky District. Nalychevo Nature Park is located in the district and was established in 1995. You can plan your trip around different interests: explore the springs and their geothermal surroundings, or consider a hiking route with specific details on distance and walking time.

Protected Areas and Distinctive Landscapes

Nalychevo Nature Park includes the Avachinsky, Koryaksky, Dzenzur, Kozelsky and Zhupanovsky volcanoes, as well as the Kekukuy, Vershinskaya and Kupol mountains. Mutnovsky is one of the largest volcanic formations in Yelizovsky District. Nalychevo Valley also has its own protected status: it was designated a specially protected area in 1996.

Another protected natural monument is the “Vachkazhets Mountain Massif.” It was established on January 9, 1981, to protect unique landforms and has regional protected status. The Medvezhya spring group is a different, geothermal landscape: it lies in a 70 × 90 metre depression along a stream. It includes mud pots, as well as outlets of thermal water and steam-gas mixtures.

Springs and Hikes

The most visited springs in Nalychevo Valley include the Talovskie springs, also called Talovye, the Nalychevo healing springs, and the Dzensurskie and Kraevedcheskie springs. The Aktivnaya group is the strongest of the Dachnye thermal springs. These names and distinctions offer specific points of reference if the springs are to be a focus of your trip.

A radial hiking trail leads to the Dachnye springs. Its designated season runs from June to October; the route is 4.5 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 20 metres and is listed as taking two hours to walk. The route is not recommended for people with disabilities. Check the latest route information before setting out. The stated walking time is a useful planning estimate, while the explicit accessibility recommendation should be taken into account when making your decision.

The number of routes and their seasonal accessibility may change, so check the latest information when planning your trip. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can also consider the focus of your excursions: will your trip be mainly about the springs, the protected landscape, or a hike with a specified duration?

The Nature Park in the Kamchatka Region

In the broader Kamchatka Region, Nalychevo Nature Park is one of four nature parks in Kamchatka Krai that, together with two federal protected areas, form the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Volcanoes of Kamchatka.” This classification applies to the region and the nature park; it should be distinguished from the protected status of Nalychevo Valley.

The nature park has around 200 thermal springs, forming groups with different hydrochemical, temperature-related and balneological properties. In the central part of the park are hot and cold mineral springs with carbonic, arsenic- and boron-bearing waters enriched with mineral trace elements. Thus, the springs are notable not only as individual named locations, but also for the variety of water characteristics found within the nature park. This regional perspective complements the specific destinations in Yelizovsky District without conflating their different protected-area and landscape designations.
