Dzerzhinskiy District: Art, Estate History and Nature
Accommodation in Dzerzhinskiy District
In Dzerzhinskiy District, the themes range from contemporary art in a natural landscape to the history of an estate complex and its manufactories. The Nikola-Lenivets Art Park and Polotnyany Zavod offer different perspectives on the destination. When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to consider which of these aspects you would like to shape your stay most.
Art and Landscape at Nikola-Lenivets
The Nikola-Lenivets Art Park showcases a collection of contemporary art and architecture in a picturesque natural landscape. Part of the park lies within Ugra National Park. Art, architecture and landscape together provide the thematic backdrop for a visit.
Getting around is also part of the visitor rules: bicycles, kick scooters and other personal means of transport are permitted, including electric-powered versions. The art park is open to visitors around the clock. However, on festival days, admission is only possible with a ticket for the event.
Estate History and Manufactories at Polotnyany Zavod
The Goncharov estate complex in Polotnyany Zavod was established in the first half of the 18th century under Afanasy Abramovich Goncharov, the great-great-grandfather of N. N. Goncharova-Pushkina. The ensemble included a castle-like manor house, the Church of the Transfiguration, buildings for a sailcloth manufactory and a paper manufactory, a horse yard, parks, a greenhouse and ponds. The manor and production facilities are thus part of the same historical context.
The exhibition in the main house covers Alexander Pushkin’s visits to the estate in late May 1830 and in August 1834. Another precise date is the consecration of the Church of the Transfiguration, which took place on 24 November 2019. Metropolitan Kliment of Kaluga and Borovsk consecrated it together with Archbishop Maksimilian of Pesochensk and Bishop Nikita of Kozelsk.
