Petrovskiy: “Iyun'kaya karusel' na Nerli” Folklore Festival
Accommodation in Petrovskiy
Petrovskiy offers a clear cultural reason to travel: the interregional “Iyun'kaya karusel' na Nerli” Folklore Festival. It has been held in the village on the Feast of the Holy Trinity since 2003. If you want to focus on folklore and regional traditions, you can plan a trip to Petrovskiy around this festival. When looking for a holiday rental, a first question is whether Petrovskiy should be the focus of your trip or whether you also want to include other cultural destinations in Ivanovo Oblast.
The festival and its setting
The opening takes place each year near the cultural centre on the banks of the old Nerl River. At the 2025 edition, more than 30 ensembles from Ivanovo, Vladimir, Yaroslavl and Moscow Oblasts came to Petrovskiy to showcase their talents. This edition illustrates the festival’s interregional scope: it connects Petrovskiy with groups from several regions, while the Feast of the Holy Trinity provides its recurring date.
The festival is therefore a specific reason to consider Petrovskiy as a travel destination. If you mainly want to experience the festival, you can focus your holiday-rental search on it. If, instead, you want to include other places and themes in Ivanovo Oblast, it is worth deciding first which ones matter most for your trip.
Culture across the wider destination of Ivanovo Oblast
In Plyos, landscapes and crafts come together. The small Volga town is known for its natural beauty and leisurely pace, which have long attracted artists. The “Crafts of the Ivanovo Region” exhibition features weaving and embroidery, works from the lacquer miniature centres of Palekh and Kholuy, and a jewellery collection. Several regional craft traditions are represented side by side. Check the exhibition’s current visitor arrangements before your visit.
Palekh offers different ways to explore art and history. At the “Bakanova 46” gallery, visitors can try making their own object in the authentic Palekh style. The Church of the Exaltation of the Cross offers another perspective on the town: this architectural monument was built in the second half of the 18th century in the Naryshkin Baroque style. The history of icons is also broad in scope: a collection assembled in Palekh includes icons from different parts of the country, from Novgorod to the Urals and from the Volga region to the Russian North. The icons date from the 14th to the 19th century.
In Kholuy, collections, crafts and hands-on activities all feature. The State Museum of Kholuy Art has more than 5,000 exhibits and a regularly updated exhibition. The house museum of Vasily Dmitriyevich Puzanov-Molev, the founder of Kholuy lacquer miniatures, displays simple tools and household items from an ordinary village home. The Kholuy Embroidery and Sewing Artel is reviving the tradition of old-style embroidery; its work is made entirely by hand. The State Museum of Kholuy Art also holds workshops where visitors can paint a brooch, an Easter egg or a mobile phone holder. Check the current availability of the workshops before your visit.
These cultural themes are found in different parts of Ivanovo Oblast and differ clearly from the festival focus in Petrovskiy. Whether your reason for travelling is the folklore festival or a collection, a historic building or a craft tradition elsewhere, you can tailor your holiday-rental search to your destination.
