Novo-Talitsy is known for the history of the Tsvetaev family, annual readings, and historic churches.

Family History and Church Heritage

The Tsvetaev family museum is housed in a wooden log house. Three generations of the Tsvetaev family lived there for 75 years, beginning in 1853. The museum grounds are also home to Russia’s first monument to Ivan Vladimirovich Tsvetaev. The house and monument highlight different aspects: the log house recalls the family’s long residence there, while the monument commemorates Ivan Vladimirovich Tsvetaev.

The Tsvetaev Readings are held at the museum every year on the last weekend of May.

The churches in the village also have their own stories. The tourist route “Selo moyo rodnoye – Novo-Talitsy,” an excursion through Novo-Talitsy, includes the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the Great Martyr Barbara. Another church, the Svyato-Nikolsky Church, was built in 1755 with funds provided by the village’s owner at the time, Rear Admiral N. I. Molchanov. The two churches can also be distinguished by their different names and historical connections.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Novo-Talitsy, you can consider whether the museum, the dates of the readings, or the history of the churches should be the focus of your stay. This lets you choose where to stay based on the cultural themes that interest you most.

Culture in the Wider Destination of Ivanovo Oblast

Those also exploring the wider destination of Ivanovo Oblast will find a range of art and craft themes in Plyos, Palekh, and Kholuy. Plyos is a small town on the Volga; its natural beauty and leisurely pace have long attracted artists. One of the town’s highest points is named Gora Levitan after the artist Levitan. The “Arts and Crafts of the Ivanovo Region” exhibition in Plyos features weaving and embroidery, works from the lacquer miniature centres of Palekh and Kholuy, and a jewellery collection.

In Palekh, the focus is on icon painting. An icon collection created there includes pieces dating from the 14th to the 19th century and spans a geographic area from Novgorod to the Urals and from the Volga region to the Russian North. The Icon Museum is part of the State Museum of Palekh Art complex, which also includes the Museum of Lacquer Miniatures. There, visitors can paint small papier-mâché objects featuring the Firebird, a symbol of Palekh, in workshops. Check the current workshop dates before your trip.

In Kholuy, museums and crafts offer further insights: the State Museum of Kholuy Art has more than 5,000 exhibits and a regularly updated exhibition. The house museum of Vasily Dmitrievich Puzanov-Molev, founder of Kholuy lacquer miniatures, displays simple tools and everyday objects from an ordinary village home. The Kholuy Embroidery and Sewing Artel is reviving the tradition of old embroidery craftsmanship; all the work is done by hand.

These regional highlights can help you choose where to look for a holiday apartment in Ivanovo Oblast: Novo-Talitsy is known for family history and churches, Palekh for icons and lacquer miniatures, Kholuy for museums and embroidery, and Plyos for its Volga-side town and arts and crafts exhibition.
