Discover Varna
Accommodation in Varna
Varna offers a focus on culture and discovery: at the local history museum, you can trace the district’s history through various eras, while a pre-arranged two-hour excursion to three springs takes you through the town’s streets. Nur Mosque adds a striking architectural detail to the townscape.
The District’s History at the Local History Museum
The Varna District Local History Museum, named after V. I. Savin, preserves the district’s historical and cultural heritage. It is located at 84 Sovetskaya Street. The exhibitions span the Copper and Bronze Ages, the Iron Age and the Middle Ages, through to the Civil War, the early years of Soviet history, the Second World War, the difficult post-war period and perestroika. They also cover the research of the Orenburg Academic Expedition, the founding of Cossack stanitsas, and the settlement and development of local communities. This brings long historical timelines together with themes of regional settlement and scientific research.
Spring Excursions and Architecture
The two-hour “Varnenskiye rodniki” excursion starts at the museum by prior arrangement. This circular tour takes you along Sovetskaya and Gagarina streets in Varna, with stops at three springs along the way. A longer route, “Moy Varnenskiy kray - moi sela rodnye”, lasts seven hours and travels from Varna via Leipzig and Nikolayevka before returning to Varna. It includes visits to religious and architectural landmarks. The tours differ in both duration and route: the shorter one stays within Varna, visiting its streets and springs, while the longer one takes in additional places.
The 2025 municipal passport states that museum excursions do not take place regularly. Therefore, check current availability before planning either tour. In Varna itself, Nur Mosque has minarets topped with golden crescents—a distinctive architectural feature.
Nature Trails in Chelyabinsk Oblast
Chelyabinsk Oblast offers a distinct focus on regional nature. Taganay National Park lies in the western part of the oblast, in the Taganay mountain massif of the Southern Urals. Its landscape includes rocky peaks, stone rivers, mountain streams, taiga and tundra.
The “Ves Taganay za 600 shagov” ecological trail is just over 1.5 kilometres long. It passes through scenic areas of the Chernaya Skala area and natural complexes typical of the national park. Chernaya Skala is made of white quartzite, stands 853 metres high and is one of the northern peaks of the Nazminskiy Khrebet. The trail is one of the park’s easier excursion routes, suitable for people of all ages and requiring no special physical preparation. It has a paved path and an observation platform, and is accessible to wheelchair users. The excursion also includes free time for the group to take photographs.
Another type of route can be found in Zyuratkul National Park, which lies in the highest part of Chelyabinsk Oblast. The easy ecological trail to the Zyuratkul Range is six kilometres long one way and gains 460 metres in elevation; children can manage it too. The Malaya Medvezhya Trail starts in the settlement of Zyuratkul and is five kilometres long. This makes it possible to compare routes of different lengths while keeping the elevation gain of the ridge route in mind. Check current trail conditions before your visit.
When looking for a holiday rental, start by deciding what you want your trip to focus on: Varna offers a local history museum, a mosque and pre-arranged excursions, while the national park trails provide a distinct nature-focused option in Chelyabinsk Oblast.
