Mokhovichki brings together a brief, clearly dated local history and a specific accommodation and bathing offer on the outskirts of the village. The landscapes and sights of Chelyabinsk Oblast also provide a broader setting for planning your trip.

A Village with a History on Lake Mokhovoye

Mokhovichki was founded in 1926 as a settlement separated from the village of Zavarukhino on Lake Mokhovoye. The name Mokhovichki is also derived from the lake. This origin gives the village a specific connection to the settlement history of the area: rather than a long chronicle, the focus here is on a single, clearly defined link between the village and the lake.

On the edge of Mokhovichki, next to a wooded area, lies the Les recreation centre. The location on the outskirts of the village and the history of the place are different aspects that may influence your choice of accommodation: would you mainly like to learn about the village, or is the recreation centre’s offer of interest for planning your trip?

Guest Houses and Baths at the Les Recreation Centre

The recreation centre offers four guest houses. If you are considering this option, confirm the details with the operator before booking.

The bathing complex comprises three baths: a cedar bath, a birch bath and a rowan bath. Each has a heated pool with a whirlpool, a plunge pool, a barbecue area and a terrace. Each bath is located on its own enclosed grounds. If you would like to visit one of the baths, ask the operator in advance whether this is possible without staying overnight. Also take this opportunity to confirm details about the facilities.

The recreation centre combines accommodation with a bathing complex. What role this place plays in your stay depends on whether you want to include the guest houses or the baths described here in your plans.

Chelyabinsk Oblast: Nature and Culture in a Broader Setting

The geographical boundary between Europe and Asia runs through the wider travel destination of Chelyabinsk Oblast. The region is known as the “Land of 3,000 Lakes” and includes three national parks. In the western part of Chelyabinsk Oblast, in the Taganay mountain massif in the Southern Urals, lies Taganay National Park. Rocky peaks, stone rivers, mountain streams, taiga and tundra characterise the landscape described there.

One specific route in the national park is called “Ves Taganai za 600 shagov”. It is just over 1.5 kilometres long and passes through scenic sections of the Chernaya Skala area and natural complexes typical of the national park. The route includes a paved path and a viewing platform and is accessible to wheelchair users. It is one of the easier excursion routes, is suitable for people of all ages and requires no special physical preparation. After the excursion, the group has free time for photography. Check the current conditions before your visit.

At 853 metres, Chernaya Skala is one of the northern peaks of the Nazminskiy-khrebet and is made of white quartzite. This geological feature is a distinct aspect of the region’s natural environment; it is separate from the information about the route and shows that, in the context of Taganay, both the route and the nature of the landscape matter.

Hiking in Zyuratkul National Park

In Zyuratkul National Park, which lies in the highest part of Chelyabinsk Oblast, an easy ecological hiking trail leads to the Zyuratkul Ridge. It is six kilometres long one way and climbs 460 metres; children can manage it too. The Malaya Medvezhya Trail starts in the settlement of Zyuratkul and is five kilometres long. This gives you different details about length and elevation profile for planning: the length of the trail to the ridge is explicitly given as one way, while the Malaya Medvezhya Trail is described by its total length.

Memorial Sites and Regional Culture

A monument on the shore of Lake Chebarkul commemorates the meteorite impact. Through an opening in the stone marker, you can see a buoy marking the impact site. The monument combines a visible marker with a specific reminder of the event; check current access conditions before visiting.

Another cultural detail of the region is the chapel in Poteshnaya Fortress. It is dedicated to Saint Prince Peter and Princess Fevronia of Murom. Together with the landscapes and hiking trails, this example shows that regional interests are not limited to nature experiences.
