Nizhnyaya Ivolga’s surroundings bring together a distinctive history of springs and religious traditions. A yurt camp in the village also became part of a travel program in 2013. Another route is planned for the Ivolginskoye rural settlement. These topics offer different perspectives: religious traditions in the surrounding area and a planned project at the settlement level.

Aryuun bulag: The history of the springs and rituals

Near Nizhnyaya Ivolga, at the foot of Mount Bayan Ulaan, lies the Aryuun bulag complex, also known as Chistyy klyuch. Its history is connected with Lubsan-Nima Darmaev, the first Khambo Lama after the Great Patriotic War and founder of Ivolginsky Datsan. The spring’s source was discovered in 2008 after a four-year search.

A log-built well house was constructed at the complex with donations from villagers. A yurt for lamas was also built, where rituals honoring the Lusad, the water spirits, are held. The spring, well house, and ritual yurt thus represent different aspects of the place: its discovery as well as its religious traditions.

Nearby Mount Bayan Ulaan also has religious significance: Khambo Lamas perform prayers there at the only Oboo. The mountain is therefore also called Khambyn oboo. This tradition adds another connection to the spiritual landscape around Nizhnyaya Ivolga to the story of Aryuun bulag.

A planned route in the Ivolginskoye settlement

The route “Bolshoye Goroo – Put' po Solntsu” in the Ivolginskoye settlement was scheduled to begin operating at the end of 2026. The planned concept includes an ethnopark and a roadside service complex. It also calls for the “Khurde” tourist information center and the “Svayambhu Suburga” pilgrimage complex.

Other planned features include a health and recreation zone at the “Khalyuty” mineral spring and an ecological trail. Alongside cultural facilities, the concept therefore includes nature and recreation elements. If the route is relevant to your trip, check its current status before making specific plans.

A historical glimpse of the “Altargana” yurt camp

During an informational tour on April 23, 2013, the “Altargana” yurt camp in the village of Nizhnyaya Ivolga was the first stop on the program. The hostess showed visitors four furnished yurts for overnight stays, a yurt café serving national cuisine, and a Russian bathhouse. These details are part of the travel program at that time and offer a glimpse of the camp in its historical context.

Since route information and availability can change, it is best to verify details with the park.
