Goryachinsk is located on the eastern shore of Lake Baikal. The three terrenkurs differ in length and route: one leads to the lake shore, one covers the entire resort grounds, and the third passes through its forest park area. There is also a thermal swimming pool in an open pavilion and treatments using mineral water.

Three terrenkurs, three route profiles

Terrenkur No. 3 is 1,500 metres long and has seven markers. It begins at the Goryachinsk resort, passes through a forest area in the central ecological zone of the Lake Baikal nature area, and leads to the lake shore.

Terrenkur No. 1 is 2,000 metres long and covers the entire resort grounds. Nine markers and light-coloured stones indicate its route.

Terrenkur No. 2 is the shortest at 700 metres. It passes through the resort’s forest park area; four markers and light-coloured stones mark the way. It is considered suitable for adults with young children, older people, and those in weakened health.

For choosing by route length, No. 2 is the shortest and No. 1 the longest of the three routes; at 1,500 metres, No. 3 is in between and leads to the lake shore. The options therefore differ both in length and in their described routes.

Thermal pool and mineral water

The resort’s thermal swimming pool is open year-round and is located in an open pavilion. Check the latest operating details before your trip. Mineral water from the “Hot Spring” source at the resort is also used in therapeutic treatments such as showers and baths.

A natural landmark in the area is Turtle Rock: the large boulder between Turka and Goryachinsk resembles a turtle with its neck stretched out.

Nature and culture in the Republic of Buryatia

Since 1916, the Barguzinsky Nature Reserve has protected the northeastern shore of Lake Baikal and its taiga slopes. Tunkinsky National Park has eight tourist routes and four ecological educational trails, including driving, hiking, water, and horseback routes. The number and availability of routes may change; check current details directly with the park.

Ivolginsky Datsan (Khambyn Süme) is a large Buddhist monastic complex in the village of Verkhnyaya Ivolga in the Republic of Buryatia and is considered a centre of Russian Buddhism. The datsan preserves the body of Pandito Khambo Lama XII Dashi-Dorzho Itigelov, which is described as imperishable. The more than 2,000-year-old Gunne settlement site is also located in Ivolginsky District.

In Ulan-Ude, the Ethnographic Museum of the Peoples of Transbaikalia features residential and settlement complexes of the pre-Baikal and Transbaikal Buryats, Evenks, Soyots, Old Believers, and Russian old settlers. Visitors can try national sports and take part in animated tours.
