Grayvoronsky District: Parks, Architecture and Museums
Accommodation in Grayvoronsky District
Grayvoronsky District offers a cultural perspective on garden art, architecture and collections. In Golovchino, the historic Park-Sad and the Round Building illustrate different design approaches; in Grayvoron, the focus is on churches, religious objects and the history of V. G. Shukhov.
Park-Sad in Golovchino
The historic Park-Sad was laid out in the second half of the 19th century and placed under state protection in 1975. It covers 16.95 hectares and combines two design approaches: to the east is a formal garden, while the western section is landscaped in a natural style. The transition between these areas makes the mixed style clear: formal order and landscape design sit side by side within a single park. Those interested in garden art can consider not only the grounds as a whole, but also the contrast between the two concepts.
The park is a recreational area and an established part of the district’s excursion routes. It also attracts great interest from tourists from Russia and abroad. If you are planning a visit as part of an excursion, check the dates in advance.
Architecture in Golovchino
The Round Building has a circular layout, with a basement level and three above-ground floors. Its spatial composition follows the principle of a “cylinder within a cylinder.” This formula draws attention beyond the floor plan to the underlying idea of the building’s form: the nested cylindrical shape is as much a part of its description as its circular exterior. The building can therefore be considered in terms of its structure and spatial composition, not just its silhouette.
Churches and museums in Grayvoron
In Grayvoron, the Museum of Spiritual and Local History displays icons from the 19th and 20th centuries, church objects and books. It also features detailed replicas of the Ioasaf of Belgorod Church-Chapel and the Holy Trinity Church of Grayvoron. The original Holy Trinity Church has not survived. Religious objects and replicas of churches are therefore presented together; the collection connects artifacts with depictions of sacred buildings.
The new Ioasaf of Belgorod Church-Chapel is also one of Grayvoron’s religious buildings. It was built in 1998 on the site of the former chapel. The chapel was consecrated on December 20 by Archbishop Ioann of Belgorod and Stary Oskol.
The V. G. Shukhov Museum in Grayvoron opened in 2000. Its four exhibitions cover Shukhov’s childhood and youth, his technical creativity, his family and his hometown. The topics thus range from his early years and technical work to his family and local connections. Those interested in Shukhov can explore several different biographical perspectives.
When choosing a holiday apartment, you can take your trip’s cultural focus into account: will garden art at Park-Sad take center stage, or will you focus on architecture and museum exhibits?
