Culture

The Muzeul Județean „Ștefan cel Mare“ Vaslui was founded in 1974 as a museum of history and ethnography and opened to the public in 1975. Since 2018, it has had a newly established and modernised permanent exhibition.

The „Adormirea Maicii Domnului“ Church is documented by a charter issued by Prince Miron Barnovschi Movila on 30 July 1628. Casa Ghica is a neoclassical historic monument in the historic centre of Vaslui and the oldest secular building in Vaslui. Palatul Mavrocordat was built between 1883 and 1892 in the neoclassical and Neo-Rococo styles. Mălinești Monastery includes a wooden church dating from 1762. The Orthodox Church of „Tăierea Capului Sfântului Ioan Botezătorul“ was founded in 1490 by Ștefan cel Mare.

Several Orthodox churches are located in the area around Vaslui: Biserica Ortodoxă Tunseşti, Biserica Ortodoxă Trei lerarhi Bogdana, Biserica Ortodoxă Buda and Biserica Ortodoxă Idrici.

Events

Zilele Culturale ale Municipiului Vaslui is an annual programme held in mid-August, featuring areas covering local history, literature, visual arts, holiday workshops, sport, astronomy and the performing arts.

Nature

The landscape around Vaslui includes several hills: Dealul Zizinca, Dealul Negrea, Dealul Horaţiu and Capul Dealului are each hills in the area around Vaslui. Parcul Copou is located north of Vaslui and is a public dendrological garden covering approximately 11 hectares.

Movila lui Burcel is a national botanical reserve covering 12 hectares on the slopes of a 390-metre-high hill. The area features rare Pontic, sub-Mediterranean and continental flora, including the steppe iris (Iris pummila) and the mountain pasque flower (Pulsatila montana).

Coasta Rupturile–Tanacu is a national protected area in IUCN Category IV and a floristic nature reserve. Coasta Rupturile–Tanacu covers 6 hectares and is located in the Central Moldavian Hills.
