The archaeological description thus connects the discovered material with a clearly identified settlement and fortification form. The fortified tell and the at least one circular defensive ditch together constitute the preserved structural features of Pusta Mică.

History

Outside the village of Pădureni lies the section of the earthwork Valul de pământ de la Pădureni - Valul roman II/ Iarc. North of Pădureni, it is situated on the left slope of a small tributary valley of the Timiş River. Historically, the settlement of Pădureni was called Lighed. In Old Turkish, “lighet” means “forest”.

The former name Lighed is therefore part of the local history of Pădureni, while the Old Turkish meaning of the word preserves a linguistic reference to the historical form of the name.

About 1 km south of Pădureni, in the direction of Jebel, lies a site known as Movila Hârţului or Movila Bisericuţa. A small medieval religious building stood there.

A small religious building from the Middle Ages stood at this site.

Landscape

The Pădureni – Mlaca Sud archaeological site lies on one of the higher river ridges. This river ridge is located between former tributaries of the Timiş.

According to the information provided, the river ridges form a recurring landscape feature and connect several archaeological sites with the relief and course of the Timiş.

The Pădureni – Pusta Mică archaeological site lies in the Câmpia Timişului. This is a subunit of the Câmpia de Vest. The river ridge on which the site lies is approximately 1 m higher than the surrounding landscape.

The ridge’s approximately 1 m higher position is given as a relative height difference from the surrounding area, not as an absolute elevation.

The Pădureni – Pădurea Unip archaeological site lies approximately 5 km northeast of Pădureni. It is located on the southern bank of the Timiş River. The site lies on the boundary between Pădurea Unip and Pădurea Lighed.
