Săbișa – Church, Landscape and Routes
Accommodation in Săbișa
The brick-built Church of „Sfântul Mucenic Dimitrie“ stands in Săbișa and was built in 1836. The town administration promoted the patronal feast of the Orthodox Church of „Sfântul Mare Mucenic Dimitrie, Izvorâtorul de mir“ in Săbișa. Its present appearance is the result of several renovations carried out in 1967–1969 and 1984–1986. Thus, its construction history includes both the original building erected in the 19th century and two clearly identified renovation phases in the 20th century. Between 1993 and 1995, the iconostasis was replaced by one made by the craftsman Vasile Chici.
The local cultural life also includes the annual „Balul Coșercilor“, held at the Săbișa cultural centre. It is a celebration of the local community.
The religious and community venues therefore belong to different local contexts: the church represents a named sacred building with a dated construction and renovation history, while the cultural centre is the venue for the annual community celebration. The patronal feast is also explicitly associated with the Orthodox Church in Săbișa.
Landscape
East of Dealul Soarelui, the Valea Hotarului stream flows between Săbișa and Seini. Its course separates the two settlements. Near Valea Hotarului there is a broad, U-shaped area between two wooded slopes. Thus, at this point in the landscape, a named stream, the wooded slopes and the open shape of the terrain come together. The stream’s location east of Dealul Soarelui and between the two settlements remains just as clearly defined as the classification of the terrain near Valea Hotarului.
Access and Routes
The DN 1C runs from Baia Mare to Satu Mare and is also designated as European route E 58. Over a length of approximately 11 km, it passes through the settlements of Seini and Săbișa. At the entrance to Săbișa, there is a bicycle rental station on the left-hand side of the DN 1 when entering from the direction of Baia Mare.
One route option between Săbișa and Seini passes the mouth of the Valea Hotarului. This is located approximately 100 m south of the quarry with the white cross on Dealul Soarelui. Another route option leads from Săbișa to Dealul Comșa and descends via Cetatea Seini. The destination of the route is Dealul Comșa on the northern slope; the name of the poet Mihai Eminescu has been laid out there in a spruce plantation. The routes described thus connect the settlements of Săbișa and Seini with the stream, the quarry, the white cross, Cetatea Seini and the wooded area on Dealul Comșa.
The road and route details complement one another geographically: the DN 1C, or E 58, describes the section passing through the two settlements, while the options name individual points south of the quarry, at Dealul Comșa and near Cetatea Seini. For entry from Baia Mare, the left-hand side of the DN 1, where the bicycle rental station is located, is also specified. By following the information on a map, you can distinguish the route through the settlements from the turn-offs into the surrounding terrain.
