The themed trail “Poteca de povești” leads through Pădurea Crăiască forest. The trail begins at the information centre in the centre of the Ocna Șugatag spa resort and can be walked in about half an hour.
In clear weather, Creasta Cocoșului is reflected in Tăul Morărenilor; the area is home to distinctive terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Tăul Morărenilor is protected because of its botanical species as well as its bird and aquatic fauna, including the round-leaved sundew.
The mountain “Vârful Vălenilor”, the peak “Vârful Sefirul”, the mountain “Dealul Pietrăriei” and the peak “Vârful Osului” are located around Comuna Ocna Șugatag. Tinovul și Tăurile Hoteni is a protected natural area.
Culture and history
“Tânjaua Hotenarilor” is a spring festival with an agricultural tradition held annually in Hoteni on the second Sunday in May. It celebrates the first farmer to begin ploughing and includes a procession with decorated Tânjele.
The wooden church “Cuvioasa Paraschiva” is located in the centre of Sat-Șugatag on the left bank of the Mara River. The church “Biserica Sfântul Nicolae” is located in the immediate vicinity of Comuna Ocna Șugatag, as is the church “Biserica Naşterea Maicii Domnului”. The monastery “Mânăstirea Budeşti” is located in the vicinity of Comuna Ocna Șugatag.
The Greek Catholic wooden church “Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavril” in Breb is a historical monument dating from 1622. The church is noted for an extensive collection of icons from the 17th to the 19th century.
The wooden church “Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavril” in Hoteni is a historical monument dating from 1657. It was built in Slatina in 1790 and reconstructed in Hoteni in 1895.
The museum “Muzeul de Stiintele Naturn Sighetu Marmaţiei” is located in the wider regional area surrounding Comuna Ocna Șugatag.
