Holiday apartment in Deșag: Zete Study Trail and Târnava Mare

Deșag connects Mount Deșag with trails on the Harghita Plateau, historical traces, the Târnava Mare and the Zetea Bear Observatory. Mount Deșag is one of the hills of the Harghita Plateau. The Zete Study Trail provides an opportunity to discover natural, historical and cultural values there. At the Târnava Mare, rafting adds a separate stretch on the water.

Zete Study Trail and Zete Castle

The Zete Study Trail is 3.5 km long and lies between Zetelaka and Zeteváralja, at the exit from the settlement towards Deșag, in Harghita County, Romania. Zete Castle is the fourth station on the Zete Study Trail. The archaeological reserve of Zete Castle protects barely visible traces of an ancient fortress. On the descent from Zete Castle, two ditches are crossed. The 3.5 km length can be taken into account as a separate trail section when planning the day; the descent with the ditches is part of the same route. Zete Castle remains a historical station for those interested in culture. This section therefore combines a clearly specified route with a historical station and a specific terrain feature.

Route 59 with varying surfaces

In the surrounding area, Route 59 Punct Albastru runs along dirt, forest and gravel roads and can also be ridden by mountain bike. Here, the trail surface is a different focus from the historical station of the Zete Study Trail. The three surfaces make Route 59 Punct Albastru a section with a changing surface. Dirt, forest and gravel roads remain the specific features of this route.

Rafting on the Târnava Mare

A rafting tour on the Târnava Mare River begins at Pensiunea Desagtravel in Deșag–Sub Cetate. In addition, a planned rafting route from Deșag is envisaged, following the river for 4 km and ending in the municipality of Zetea. At 4 km, the planned rafting route is half a kilometre longer than the 3.5 km study trail. The tour therefore starts in Deșag–Sub Cetate; the planned route runs for 4 km to the municipality of Zetea. For planning activities on the water, the starting point at Desagtravel, the length of the planned route and its endpoint in Zetea provide specific geographical reference points.

Zetea Bear Observatory and karting track

The Zetea Bear Observatory is located in the village of Deșag, in the municipality of Zetea, Harghita County. Visitor groups must consist of at least two people; departures take place several hours before nightfall. For observing nature, both the minimum group size and the advance time before nightfall must therefore be taken into account. The Zete karting track is located on the outskirts of Sub Cetate, in the Desag Resort area, on the banks of the Târnava, in the Deșag Valley.
