Culture and History
The church of “Sfântul Nicolae” is located in the village of Rojiște. The church dates from 1780 and features original frescoes. The church of “Sfântul Ioan Botezătorul” stands in Tîmburești; it dates from 1834 and was restored in 1907 and 1928.
The Oaga Vijoii archaeological site contains a settlement of the Dridu culture. The ceramic fragments discovered there could be dated to the 10th century.
Geographical Location
National road DN 55 runs through Rojiște Commune and connects Craiova with the Danube port of Bechet. Within the commune, it also connects the two villages of Rojiște and Tîmburești.
At Oaga Vijoii, the Craiova–Bechet road between Rojiște and Mârșani crosses a gully formed by flowing water.
Nature
The Coridorul Jiului protected area (ROSCI0045) was designated a site of Community importance in December 2007 in order to protect 2 plant species and 23 animal species. The protected natural area of Coridorul Jiului serves to protect biological diversity, wild animals and plants, as well as natural habitats of Community interest.
Community Life
The feast day of the “Sfântul Nicolae” church is celebrated in Rojiște every year by the local community, which gathers for a church service. Community Day, “Ziua comunei”, is celebrated on 26 October.
