Comuna Dobârlău: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Comuna Dobârlău lies at the junction of the geographical microregions of Țara Bârsei and Munții Întorsurii. Dobârlău is located in the southeast of Țara Bârsei and is surrounded by the Clăbucetele Întorsurii. Forests and pastures are the predominant vegetation types in the municipality. The regional landscape also includes the Pârâul Finișoara, a tributary of the Râul Tărlung. The typical mountain forest fauna of the region includes red deer, bears, lynxes, foxes, wolves, wild boar and falcons.
Landscape
Valea Dobârlăului lies at the northern foot of the Munții Întorsurii Buzăului, in the upper valley of the Dobârlău stream. County road DJ103B crosses Comuna Dobârlău and has been modernised throughout its entire length within the municipality.
Culture and history
At the archaeological site of “Cetatea lui Barabas”, there is an earthen rampart beside a stream. Mărcuș has been documented since 1505. The place name Dobârlău is said to derive from the shepherd Dobre, who settled here around 1500 as one of the first inhabitants. Dobârlău is also home to the “Muzeul Etnografic Maria”.
Mărcuș Monastery bears the two patronages “Sfinții Români” and “Acoperământul Maicii Domnului”. It was built on the site of an old hermitage that had been destroyed around 1700.
Traditions
The folk traditions of Valea Dobârlăului include Christmas carol singing and New Year celebrations. As part of the pastoral tradition in Mărcuș, six kilograms of Brânză de burduf and one kilogram of Urdă were given for each sheep being milked. In Mărcuș and Lunca Mărcușului, sheep were gathered around the Easter holidays and herded until 1 December or until the first snow, respectively.
Hiking
The hiking trail marked PA connects Dobârlău with Vârful Pilişca, the highest point of the Munții Întorsurii. The trail reaches Vârful Pilişca at an altitude of 1,222 metres. From there, there are views of Valea Dobârlăului and the ridge between Dobârlău and Teliu.
